Army National Guard Units SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) (Title 32) in Windsor Locks, Connecticut

Summary THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF), Windsor Locks, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time Temporary Technician personnel (Tenure 0) and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform sheet metal maintenance on aircraft and components. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Inspects and troubleshoots aircraft structures such as fuselage, tail, wings, cowlings and stabilizers. Repairs cracks in aircraft skin. Sets up, operates and maintains power shears, metal brakes, rolls, dimpling machines, drills, saws, heat-treating furnaces, hardness testers, arc and oxyacetylene welders and other metal working equipment and tools of the trade. May paint, strip or stencil aircraft and/or components. May assist in other functions within the Component Repair Shop in the accomplishment of mission requirements. WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to danger involved in or resulting from: use of powered shop equipment, high pressure gas cylinders and high electrical voltage; swiftly activated hydraulic or pneumatic metal aircraft assemblies, such as landing gear, speed brakes, flaps, and other components; working near aircraft, jet blast, heat, fuel, oil, high noise levels, icy ramps, wet or slippery surfaces of aircraft and work stands. Subject to cuts and burns, eye strain and skin irritation from fumes, paints, and fluids. Works outdoors and indoors. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and over. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 6, 12 or 18 months of specialized experience in the following: WG-05 REQUIRES 6 MONTHS: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use common hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments and make repetitive repairs. Experience which demonstrates a basic knowledge of the type of work performed by the occupational series. Experience providing assistance to the journeyman by performing the simpler and routine duties of the trade. WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS: Experience or training planning, manufacturing, and installing cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastening. Experience cutting and forming by using basic hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, squaring shears, seamers, bar folders, breaks, and stakes. Experience assembling parts by seaming, bolting, screwing, riveting, tacking, spot-welding, or soldering. Experience demonstrating a basic understanding of using measuring instruments. WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS: Experience or training planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to plan, construct, assemble, disassemble, repair, fabricate, and install irregular items and systems having combined shapes to exacting tolerances using the least number of seams and amount of metal. Ability to work independently from written or oral instructions, blueprints, sketches, or personal inspection of items or systems to be manufactured or repaired. Ability to independently develop plans and make decisions. Skill in making layouts, patterns and templates using recognized trade methods and practices. Knowledge of and skill in the selection and use of special sheet metal tools and equipment without instructions, and to develop modifications to prototype or test equipment. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-3 through E-8 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within the state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance. Education No substitution of education for specialized experience. Additional Information Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid. To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. For M-Day/Traditional personnel who are currently receiving incentives to include Bonuses and the Student Loan Repayment Program, the following termination rule applies: Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
