*POSITION SUMMARY:\ *Under direct supervision & guidance of the Occupational Therapist, the PRN Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is responsible for providing rehabilitation services to people with visual impairments as outlined in a treatment plan, with the ultimate goal of improving the patients quality of life and enhancing their personal independence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Work as a team member with therapists and providers to problem solve best care strategies for patients.
  • Assist therapists or providers in the screening patients who could benefit from OT rehabilitation services.
  • Help patients with visual impairments or blindness learn how to perform daily living activities and communicate effectively with and/or without equipment aids and devices.
  • Perform patient training both in the office and in patients homes or the community.
  • Implement exercises and activities for the patient in an original and creative manner that reflects unique integration of treatment plan goals.
  • Assist in training patients in the use of low vision devices and CCTVs as recommended by the physician.
  • Document patients progress towards identified objectives for therapists to review and bill for services appropriately.
  • Monitor an individuals activities to make sure they are performed correctly and provide encouragement when needed.
  • Maintenance and repair of adaptive equipment/devices as needed
  • Assist with providing educational support to the families and caregivers of patients receiving rehabilitation services.
  • Attend team meetings required for regulatory and training purposes.
  • Work a flexible, as needed schedule to support the patient caseload of the team.
