We have an exciting opportunity for a Counsel – Commercial and Data Privacy , who will play a key role in providing legal guidance and support to our business units. Reporting to the General Counsel, this position is responsible for ensuring compliance and mitigating legal risks in the areas of contracts, data privacy, and data security protection.
In this role, you will develop and implement short- and long-term legal strategies, oversee contract management processes, and serve as a key legal resource for internal stakeholders. You will also interact with senior management, supervise outside counsel, and stay ahead of evolving regulations impacting our operations.

Responsibilities
Serve as the primary legal resource to business units within the Company on matters representing commercial and residential contracting and other areas where contract support is needed within the business units.
Provide overall direction and short and long-term strategic support to business units within the Company regarding commercial and residential contracting and priorities pertinent to those areas of focus.

Interact directly with internal clients including members of senior management. Maintain a positive relationship with internal clients and, to the extent possible, external customers.
Perform legal tasks, with little direction or guidance, in support of the Company’s designated objectives. These tasks may include, without limitation, assisting with preparing, drafting, or reviewing contracts, supervising litigation, submitting materials in response to governmental investigations, negotiating terms and conditions of business agreements with third parties, preparing and drafting of memorandum regarding changes in legislation or regulations impacting upon the Company, providing training and recommending legal policies and practices to assure legal and/or regulatory compliance.
Function as an administrator of the Company’s contract management software and assist with the day-to-day management of the software, including training employees on how to use the software as needed.
Retain, supervise and assist outside legal counsel in analyzing and processing matters when appropriate, including defining objectives and goals for projects assigned to outside counsel. Monitor and control the expenses incurred by outside counsel. Continually monitor the quality of outside legal services.
Provide guidance and instruction to the Legal Department’s support staff in rendering assistance to business units.
Function as the Legal Department representative on committees or multi-departmental project teams as assigned.
Remain current and knowledgeable regarding legislation, regulations, case law and administrative rulings (or pending legislation or administrative pronouncements) pertinent to the Company’s operations within the assigned areas of responsibility.

Qualifications
JD degree from an ABA accredited law school
Minimum of 7 - 10 years relevant legal experience, preferably of which at least 5 years is in-house
The ability to practice law as a corporate generalist while addressing issues within assigned specific substantive legal areas, which may include: consumer protection, contracts, employment and labor, environmental, safety, intellectual property, litigation, including product liability and motor vehicle accidents, mergers & acquisitions, commercial real estate, securities, and technology and software licensing.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to clearly and succinctly explain legal concepts in a non-technical manner to non-lawyers.
Experience working with contract management software.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and internet research.
