Job Description: Campus Title: Painter I State Job Title: Painter I Department: Trades Job Code: H14X31 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Funding: 7115-0100 Bargaining Unit: AFSCME Job Type: Full-Time Permanent Timeframe: 52 Weeks Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM (some nights and weekends may be required) Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from Painter II, Trades supervisor, and Director of Facilities and Operations; receives assignments through School Dude, email, and/or verbal communication. Supervision Exercised: None Salary: \$1,930.85 Bi-Weekly Working Conditions: Painters stand for long periods of time; work outdoors in all types of weather; are exposed to noxious gas and fumes; work on ladders and/or scaffolding at heights greater than 10 feet; lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs; may be exposed to high-speed vehicular traffic; may work in confined areas; may work varied shifts, weekends and nights. General Statement of Duties: Maintains campus buildings by selecting, purchasing, and applying paints, varnishes, and stains to all types of surfaces; adheres to safety standards; oversees the work of others assigned to assist in special projects; trains and supervises summer workers. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to: Essential: Applies appropriate materials to complete work orders, including selecting type and color of paints, varnishes or stains for the surface, blends and prepares the same for proper color match. Estimates the length of time, cost, quantities of materials and manpower to complete projects. Reads instructions on layouts to understand work to be done. Confers with supervisors, department heads and the other painters or trades personnel to ensure projects are completed expeditiously while maintaining cost-effective goals of the department. Prepares reports to track and maintain the paint/painting supply inventory for all buildings. Applies paints, varnishes, and stain to all types of surfaces including but not limited to all buildings, athletic fields, roadways, and parking lots. Prepares surfaces for painting using appropriate tools and techniques. Operates, cleans, and maintains hand and power tools related to the trade. Oversees the work of summer painters and assists them with painting projects. Follows accepted safety practices for operating equipment used to gain access to areas needing painting. Requirements: Qualifications Required at Hire: Knowledge of the practices and techniques of painting. Knowledge of the types and uses of paints, varnishes, and stains as well as painting tools. Knowledge of the practices and techniques of mixing and matching paints. Knowledge of the properties, characteristics, and methods of preparation of wood, glass, metal, plaster, cement, and other surfaces for painting. Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures relative to the uses of ladders, scaffold, and other climbing equipment. Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in painting. Knowledge of the chemical solvents used to prepare surfaces. Skill in applying paints and other finishes by brush, cloth air gun, roller, sprayer, etc. Qualifications Acquired on Job: Knowledge of the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities in connection with painting work. Knowledge of the types and uses of agency forms. Minimum Entrance Requirements: At least one year of full-time, or the equivalent part-time, experience in painting work or any of the substitutions listed on the state job specifications.
