CITY OF WEST JORDAN Stormwater Operator I, II, III OR IV in WEST JORDAN, Utah

Full-time Stormwater Operator I, II, III OR IV needed for a West Jordan, UT employer.

Pay Range:

  1. Operator I: $20.22 - $28.87
  2. Operator II: $22.34 - $31.86
  3. Operator III: $24.07 - $34.31
  4. Operator IV: $26.59 - $37.92

Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, 6:30 am -- 5:00pm Monday -- Thursday.

SUMMARY

Under immediate supervision, responsible for performing a variety of apprentice level duties involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of Stormwater collection systems, equipment, and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Assigned to work in one of the three utility divisions and will work generally within that division to test, maintain, inspect, repair, and clean the various utility pipes, fittings, inlets, basins, valves, or other apparatus associated with the utility.

• May involve emergency call-out or overtime repair work, working in various weather conditions, at various times of the day/night.

• Perform general maintenance and cleanup duties around facilities.

• Operate a variety of vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of utility distribution and collection systems.

• Operate TV inspection truck and related equipment to inspect storm drain lines.

• Troubleshoot problems with the TV system including camera, tractor, drum, computer, and software.

• Assist and or operate jet truck to clean stormwater main lines; excavate, repair, and replace stormwater mains.

• Maintain stormwater equipment in operating order by inspecting, removing, repairing, and replacing malfunctioning parts and sections.

• Inspect and clean the interiors of stormwater control devices 

• Conduct routine tests of stormwater pipes.

• Cut and remove roots, debris, and other obstacles from stormwater pipes.

• Remove and inspect manhole covers and manholes; mix, pour, and finish concrete to raise manholes to street surfaces; replace manhole covers as needed.

• Excavate and repair of stormwater lines, connections, manholes, debris basins, and stormwater basins and their appurtenances.

• Clean storm drains; remove water from flooded streets.

• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Valid Utah Driver's License

• Possession of, or ability to obtain a Utah commercial driver's license within 1 year of employment in the position.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain Traffic Control Flagger, Trench Shoring, and Confined Space certificates within 6 months of employment (training typically provided by City). Director may grant extension if training isn't available during 6-month period.

STORMWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR I

Experience: One year of experience performing construction related activities.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain Grade I Wastewater Collection System certificate within 1 year of employment.

STORMWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR II 

Experience: Two years of experience in Stormwater collec tion system operations.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Possession of an unrestricted Grade I (or higher) Wastewater Collection Certificate

STORMWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR III

Experience: Four years of experience in Stormwater collection system operations.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Possession of a Grade IV (either restricted or unrestricted) Wastewater Collection Certificate.
  • Possession of a Registered Stormwater Inspector Certificate.

STORMWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR IV 

Experience: Six years of experience in Stormwater collection system operations. 

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Possession of an unrestricted Grade IV Wastewater Collection Certificate.
  • Possession of a Registered Stormwater Inspector Certificate. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

• Basic tools, materials, and equipment used in construction relat d activities.

• Safe driving and operation principles and practices of vehicles.

• Basic road etiquette and defensive driving.

• Basic record keeping principles.

Skill with:

• Basic tools, materials, and equipment used in construction related activities

• Operating a motor vehicle safely.

Ability to:

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions, receive specific direction on a job site.

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

• Understand the importance and possess basic record keeping abilities.

• Follow and adhere to occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in maintenance and repair work.

• Work harmoniously in a team environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs. Exposure to outdoor environments including various harsh weather conditions, noise, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, dust, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards. Ability to travel to different sites and locations. Availability for on-call, stand-by, and emergency call duties.
