Actalent Specimen Handler in Wayne, New Jersey
Job Title: Specimen HandlerJob Description
As a Specimen Handler, you will be responsible for taking samples from processors after labeling and transporting them to the handling area. Your duties include bringing samples to the centrifuging area, supporting urine pour-offs prior to testing, and moving samples between buildings, sometimes walking outside between other labs on campus to cart or carry samples around. You will multi-task between different specimen handling functions, collect specimens from all processing stations, and deliver them to the specimen handling area. Your role also involves preparing SST specimens for RSA and/or manual pour-off, placing specimens in centrifuges for spinning, and performing all required maintenance procedures. You will document all issues into the log book and communicate problems to upper management. Additionally, you will process and pour off specimens manually, sort processed specimens into racks for delivery into the lab by pour off groups, and carry and push at least 30 pounds around the laboratory. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and handle a lot of walking for sample movement between stations.

Work Site
This is a fully on-site position in ELMWOOD PARK, New Jersey.
Work Environment
The work involves standing for the entirety of the shift and handling samples with PPE. You will move samples after processing to different areas of the laboratory to be tested, pour off urine samples, and then send the rest of the sample to the mapping area for storage. You will carry samples to different lab departments prior to testing or post-testing, and carry 10-15 pounds. The role requires working in one area and rarely moving to a different building/work station. However, if working in certain buildings, you may have to walk between buildings outside to move samples around. All roles involve moving around and standing the whole time. Training for the position lasts for more than 2 weeks, Monday to Friday during the same hours.
