Ultrasound Tech II Location: Fayetteville, NC Duration: Fulltime Shift Information: Days, Full Time Description: Job summary: The Ultrasound Technologist II is fully competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the Diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions Job relationships: Responsible to: Ultrasound Supervisor or Radiology Manager Nature of supervision received: Direct Major job functions: The following is a summary of the major essential functions of the job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time. Fully competent to perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology Department Fully competent in the technical operations of all equipment in this section. Assesses the patient, reviews the orders/ chart as appropriate confirming the reason for exam. Ensures pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed. Prepares the patient for the procedure, answers any patient’s questions and effectively communicates with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol. Responsible for the prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist. Provides a safe environment to include, but not limited to, infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals. Monitors the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement. Performs QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality), prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation. Actively participates in the clinical education of student sonographers. Actively participates in department’s Performance Improvement Projects. Qualifications: The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum require­ments necessary to perform the essential functions of this job: Education and formal training: Graduate of an AMA approved Sonography program with current registration by ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS). Level II sonographer must hold ARDMS certification in two different areas. Maintain current AHA CPR certification through Client Training and Development department. Work experience: 3year minimal experience required. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Demonstrates technical skills and expertise in performing diagnostic and vascular sonography. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills. Verbal and written skills required. Demonstrates compassionate patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and understands the range of treatment needed for all age groups. Provides care based on the patient’s developmental needs. Experienced in the delivery of effective patient care and interacts effectively with patients of all ages. Must have dexterity and visual acuity. Must have mobility to assume awkward positions. Must have mobility to respond to emergency situations. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to bend and lift 100lbs/carry objects up to 50 lbs.
