PURPOSE

The Registered Nurse III, under general supervision, provides patient care, evaluations, and treatment. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the clinic, which includes inventory and requisition of medical supplies, medications, and equipment. This position will also include case management duties for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional Area #1: Clinic Operations/Support

Percent Effort: 70%

  • Assumes responsibility for assigned area in clinic.

  • Provides direct patient care, patient evaluations, and treatment in accordance with Professional Nursing Standards.

  • Provides preventative education programs to students, such as residence life programs and student organization programs.

  • Uses the health care team approach to provide triage of patients, physical assessments, and treatments, including the administration of medication and therapy as directed.

  • Operates and maintains the clinic, which includes maintaining inventory and requisition of medical supplies, medications, and equipment.

  • Maintains and operates the autoclave for sterilization of instruments/supplies.

  • Maintains and monitors patient records, assesses health care needs, and provides patient education.

  • Supervises assigned staff.

  • Coordinates specialty clinic referrals in orthopedics, urology, dermatology, otolaryngology, surgery, gynecology, psychiatry, and other specialties.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the CLIA waived laboratory.

  • Perform other duties as required or requested including, but not limited to: Serve on committees as requested. Perform as a member of the University Health Center / Division of Student Engagement and Success Team (participate in departmental and division staff meetings; promote excellent customer service and teamwork within department and division).

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Functional Area #2: Case Management

    Percent Effort: 30%

  • Provide clinical case management services by meeting with and assisting students and families (if necessary) in locating resources to address basic health needs (e.g., financial, community providers, food insecurity, healthcare access, etc.)

  • Assisting students with arranging referrals and navigating the referral process with appropriate follow-up. Provide support and contacts to ensure successful connections to referrals and continuity of care.

  • Provide transition services for students who periodically need additional services to address health issues as well as students transitioning to community providers or specialists.

  • Obtain preauthorization from insurance companies for students.

  • Develop collaborative relationships with other state and national clinical case managers.

  • Serve as university and community resources liaison and coordinator by establishing and maintaining relationships with key community referral sources (e.g., community and private health providers, community services and hospitals, etc.).

  • Maintain and update referral and resource database(s) to maintain knowledge of parameters affecting referral options such as sliding fee options, wait times, insurances, intake procedures, etc. to share with students, clinical staff and campus partners as needed.

  • Documentation of case reports in the electronic medical record system.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing.

  • Four (4) years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of standard nursing procedures and techniques.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

  • Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse and the license must be unencumbered.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of case management principles and navigating the health care system.

  • CPR certified.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

  • Experience providing patient care in an acute care setting.

  • Experience working in a university student health center.

    SALARY $50,000 - $62,000 (Dependent upon education and experience.)

  • $4,166.67 - $5,166.67 Monthly.
