NURSING PROGRAM SPECIALIST

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is varied and professional nursing work in the Communicable Disease Program for epidemiology and surveillance of reportable diseases and outbreaks. Training will be provided in the areas where it is deemed necessary. This position requires the knowledge of communicable diseases and works under the supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.

Access to confidential records and computer access will be based on the need to know when involved in specific patient's care, billing activities, ordering prescribed medication or supplies, investigation of communicable disease reports, established quality improvement activities, i.e., peer review, records review audits, and investigation complaints.

Uses knowledge of quality improvement (QI) methods and processes to work with other staff to help identify opportunities for improvement and develop a culture of quality within DOH-Indian River; assists in improvement projects, as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Ability to enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic/magnetic form.
  • Ability to present to and interact directly with the public.
  • Proficient in using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) for various tasks such as setting up functions, entering data, processing information, and performing other necessary operations.
  • Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Ability to represent the organization by communicating with people outside the organization, including customers, the public, government officials, and other external parties. Communication can be exchanged in person, in writing, by telephone, or via email.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Emergencyduty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.
  • Current Florida Registered Nurse license or a multi-state from another compact state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Valid Driver's License to conduct Directly Observed Therapy in patients' homes.
  • Willing and able to serve in on-call nursing rotation.
  • Willing to work occasional flexible hours when needed, including some occasional evenings and weekends
  • Familiarity with computer programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Willing to distribute information on family planning (including emergency contraceptives)/HIV/Sexually transmitted diseases and other health related topics to pregnant and parenting adolescents and adults
