MTA Long Island Rail Road Senior Mechanical Engineer in Various locations, New York
Perform, manage and coordinate mechanical engineering functions. Responsible for research, development, planning, design and modification of mechanical components and systems and coordinate related equipment maintenance activities. Develop and supervise design, modifications and troubleshooting activities of mechanical systems such as door systems, brake systems, car body systems, machines, and rail car truck assemblies. Perform, direct and coordinate engineering and technical personnel in the design and development of methods and procedures for testing, performing maintenance tasks and analyzing material specifications and setting standards. Coordinate and conduct testing, teardown inspection and failure analysis of rolling stock systems and components and document results. Develop procedures, material requirements, and maintenance intervals in support of maintenance programs based on results of analyses.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Manage and coordinates engineering analysis and design for purchasing new or rebuilding, modifying, changing, improving existing Electrical Multiple Units, coaches, or locomotive systems and components in support of obsolescence mitigation, reliability improvement and shop maintenance activities.
Develop and evaluate mechanical drawings.
Develop maintenance instructions and test procedures (MIL, ECL, MR) in support of rail car maintenance.
Develop specifications for purchase of components and services to support maintenance of rail cars.
Supervise subordinate staff in the performance of their engineering activities providing engineering and technical assistance as deemed necessary.
Evaluate bid proposals for rail rolling stock components and services.
Perform other assignments as requested by Senior Management.
Select, develop and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
A)
Bachelors degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering
Must possess 7-10 years of work experience (Mechanical Engineering) within a railcar maintenance facility or similar organization in the manufacturing or production industry
A minimum of 3 years should be at a supervisory or management level
Must be knowledgeable with equipment design, engineering drawings, work measurement, material specifications, maintenance and production tasks standards, etc.
Must have extensive mechanical engineering experience utilizing CADD and other design and engineering tools and techniques
Sound Technical Writing and communication skills (oral and written)
Must have ability to work under pressure in troubleshooting and analyzing engineering and maintenance issues that will impact train and equipment operations
Must have experience with creation of mechanical drawings
Must be able to manage and coordinate activities of craft, supervisory and professional personnel
Must be able to supervise team tasks to accomplishment. Must have ability to co-manage with Equipment Engineering and departmental goals
B) Preferred/Desirable Skills Knowledge of shop craft labor agreements Extensive experience with AutoCAD application Extensive experience with ANSYS or other FEA application Knowledge of work conditions in a union shop environment Extensive experience performing stress analysis of mechanical components
