Position Summary: The Material Handler will be responsible for many functions within materials management that support the overall handling, storing, and shipping of specialty chemicals.
Key Responsibilities:
Picking and staging of materials for shipment using “pick tickets”
Preparation of orders for shipment in accordance with customer requirements.
Daily forklift inspection
Use and operation of forklift for extended periods.
Loading of trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
Securing freight inside of trucks with proper dunnage to ensure safe damage free transportation to the final destination.
Use automatic stretch wrapping and banding equipment to properly secure pallets for shipment.
Safe movement, storing, stacking of pallets of various types of materials in accordance with warehouse aisle clearance and height restrictions policy.
Use of drum handling devices
Using ERP System (IFS) to print pick tickets, packing slips, certificates of analysis and bill of ladings*
Loading and unloading of trucks.
Sampling materials as required by supervision.
Maintaining good housekeeping and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) standards in work areas.
Following all policies and procedures of Verdant Specialty Solutions.
Tracking and reporting performance (Safety, Quality, Productivity)
Must complete the Solvay USA, Inc - University Park pay raise competency requirements.
Identifies maintenance issues and write work orders as needed in IFS.
Handles all materials safely and according to plant procedures and ensures:
Proper personal protective equipment is being worn
Safeguards are kept in place and used
Support / adhere to all quality system requirements, including ISO 9001, European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), Good Manufacturing Practices and Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), consistent with Manufacturing Excellence and HSSE Management Systems as it relates to this position.
Completes other duties as assigned
HSE RESPONSIBILITIES
Fully participate in plant health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) initiatives
Complete live and computer-based training to comply with HS&E requirements and policies
Attend required daily and monthly safety meetings
Attend required monthly departmental meetings
Completely understand and follow plant life critical procedures
Utilize appropriate PPE based on the job task
Maintain high standard of housekeeping
Ensures that their work area is kept clean and safe at all times, such as:
Spills are cleaned up,
Containers are labeled and marked correctly,
Exit aisles are kept free of any obstruction
Any equipment / tools are returned to proper place when not in use
Requirements
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
5+ years’ experience working in processing or general batching industry.
Must be able to calculate weights and measures as it relates to warehousing, receiving and shipping of materials.
Must be able to read and understand safety rules, company policies and procedure manuals
Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form
Must be able to document activities such as work completed or inspection observations on forms or work orders using legible handwriting and understandable verbiage
Must understand and comply with all permit requirement scenarios
Understand when and how to report incidents/accidents
Must have basic computer skills
Basic knowledge of labeling individual packaging
Knowledge of how to secure packages to handling units (pallets)

Order Preparation-Wrapping/Banding
Forklift Operation
Load/Unload Trucks
Various Email functions
Utilize time keeping system
Produce Product labels using GHS label system
Utilize Windows operating system
Locate HSSE procedures and guidelines
Use ERP System (IFS)
Utilize Incident Reporting system
TRAINING CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS required to perform the essential duties of this job:
Ability to obtain forklift operator certification
Valid Driver's License
