Title: Sr. Process & Packaging Engineer

Reports to: Sr. Manager, Production Operations

Department: Operations

Responsibilities:

  • Manage package development (primary, secondary, and tertiary), process engineering and project management activities to assure timely and cost-effective new product launches, promotions, and maintenance of basic business activities.

  • Lead component design, material selection and equipment resource. Source, obtain quotes, and negotiate per desired specifications.

  • Evaluate submissions with team and management for approval.

  • Develop and implement packaging development and manufacturing process procedures (new development, improvements, and tests).

  • File and Store Data in designated Company Network Drive and/or ERP system.

  • First time Purchase Order Placement on new products and associated tooling as needed.

  • Ensure a positive package and product experience and deliver an outstanding in-use experience.

  • Development and ownership of packaging specification and process manufacturing systems with Quality and Operations.

  • Responsible for technical specifications, quality standards and component release.

  • Responsible for fit, form, function, and aesthetics of all current and future primary, secondary, and shipper packaging.

  • Approve production samples and production drawings. Set range boards.

  • Work with Product Development and Quality to identify appropriate package performance requirements. Conduct package compatibility, in-use/in-transit ship tests, line trials, and other testing to ensure formula compatibility, a positive consumer use experience, and to meet and exceed regulatory and legal requirements.

  • Oversee tooling as needed, recommend material and approve drawing specifications.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers.

  • Assess process and activity gaps and propose plans to mitigate.

  • Identify and implement new technologies/packaging processes for improved efficiencies and/or cost savings.

  • Execute appropriate packaging testing, as required (ship testing, compatibility, chemical resistance, Shock and Vibration Package Testing, etc.).

  • Create source documents such as cost investigation, package profile (preliminary specifications), tooling/part qualification and final package components specifications.

  • Drive and lead Line trial execution with or without customers on-site.

  • Document Line Trial information and results (Product Data, Labor, Equipment, etc.) needed in order to draft Company’s Filling and Assembly specifications and Line PMAP.

  • Communicate status and issues regarding project activity on a continual basis.

  • Attend and validate Line Trial data with 1st Production run to finalize Filling and Assembly requirements.

  • Insure timely and accurate completion of Approved F&A’s.

  • Maintain knowledge/awareness of Packaging/Product/Manufacturing innovation and technology advances.

  • Maintain knowledge/awareness of environmental-related worldwide requirements.

  • Provide technical support to cross-functional teams and be the go-to tech person for new packaging elements.

  • Improve and optimize the quality and performance of existing equipment and core products.

  • Track packaging quality issues, determine root cause, implement CAPA’s and track in-market response.

  • This position will interface with COO, Directors, R&D, Supply Chain, Project Management, Sales and the vendor community.

Requirements

  • BS/BA or MA in Package Engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical degree such as Industrial Design with packaging experience.

  • Microsoft Office applications, ASTM D4169, ISTA 3C familiarity,3d Printing, CNC Machining, Solidworks, Visual Mill, Mastercam, Artios Cad, Prototyping and Adobe Illustrator AUTO CAD. ERP SYSTEMS a preferred.

  • 5 to 7 years of relevant packaging experience, within Cosmetics or Personal Care categories.

  • Material science knowledge in plastics, glass, cartons, printing and decoration methods.

  • Working knowledge of global packaging regulations and requirements.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work with diverse cultures and global colleagues.

  • Commitment to accuracy, attention to detail and quality of information generated.

  • Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results.

  • Ability to manage timelines and prioritize task execution based on business need.

  • Problem-solving, solution-driven self-starter.

  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills.

  • Quality-focused and with a customer experience mindset.

  • Bi-Lingual Korean preferred.
