State of Massachusetts Security Team Specialist II in Tewksbury, Massachusetts

The Campus Police Officer II (Sargent) participates in and supervises others in the patrolling of buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas of Tewksbury Hospital and enforces State Laws as well as the rules and regulations of the Tewksbury Hospital Campus. They provide custodial supervision of mentally challenged and disruptive clients and performs job related duties as required. * Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week, working 1st shift (7:00am - 3:00 pm). Sunday and Monday are the days off. *_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Provides for supervision of shift. * Provides direction to officers regarding their duties/assignments and provide periodic reviews/evaluations of duties. * Review officers’ reports, citations, and court complaints for accuracy and completeness. * Determine subordinates’ training needs and provide for or arrange such training. * Determine need for disciplinary action by recommending/initiating disciplinary action pending Chief’s approval. * Motivate subordinates to work effectively. * Conduct subordinates’ EPRS (Employee Performance Review System). * Patrols buildings and grounds of Tewksbury Hospital Campus at regular intervals and guard against trespass, theft, damage to property. * Provides custodial supervision of mentally challenged clients and escorts them to various appointments within the hospital. * Takes custody of mentally challenged clients who have escaped from the hospital and provide custodial care and supervision until they are returned to their respective units. * Takes custody of mentally challenged clients upon their arrival, supervise them through the pre-admission process, and escort them to their assigned unit. * Takes custody of mentally challenged clients from their respective units and deliver them to corrections officers for transport to court, resume custody upon their return. * Exercises safety and security duties to prevent law violations, assists in fire drills/operations, investigates accidents and complaints on campus. * Provides escort protection to members of Tewksbury Hospital staff, visitors, student, and patients. Responds to all help calls in the hospital and outside programs to restore order. * Performs safety and security duties at plays, dances, or other Tewksbury Hospital functions; guards properties against damage, theft, and fire. Responds to all crisis situations. * Prepares reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents occurring during tours of duty. Preserves crime scenes and fire sites for examination by experts. * Performs searches for missing patients, persons, or goods. * Performs inspection of buildings, grounds, fire lanes, and emergency exits for compliance with safety standards to ensure campus security. * Enforces campus traffic and safety regulations by directing traffic; assists operators of disabled motor vehicles; assists pedestrians in crossing streets; issues parking stickers; issues traffic control tickets; and arranges for snow removal/sanding to ensure the orderly flow of traffic and the prevention of accidents. * Operates such equipment as two-way radios, fax machines, base stations, and office machines. * Maintain logs, door reports, activity reports, missing patient reports, and any other department filing/reports systems. * Completes daily logs, incident reports, and other forms. Assists in fire drills, investigations, and accident complaints. * Serves court summons to clients/staff. * Exercise safety and security duties to prevent law violations. * Respond to all crisis situations and help calls in the hospital and outside programs to restore order. * Control traffic and parking to ensure traffic/safety regulations. * Patrol buildings/grounds at regular intervals, guard against trespassing, theft, and damage to property and exercise police powers in detection and apprehension of law violators. * Assist Town and State Police Departments when needed. * Transport clients and staff on and off grounds to various locations as required. * Carry out related duties or responsibilities as directed by the Campus Police Chief.
