This advertisement is for a Career Service Located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the programs and re-entry department.

Salary Rate: $55,500.12 annually

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for provision of services for students with disabilities at prisons, institutions, and work- release centers. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Conducts staffing and organizes Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Teams for each student with a disability on the caseload.

  • Schedules, holds, and guides IEP Team meetings.

  • Prepares draft IEP documents, amends these documents according to the decisions made by the IEP Team, and finalizes these documents in PEER.

  • Conducts transition planning and makes referrals. This includes liaison and coordination with institutional psychological, medical, classification, education, and transition staff as well as research to provide the individual with contact information for available resources in their release area.

  • Conducts re-evaluation assessments for students with disabilities and/or arranges for appropriate testing.

  • Provides or arranges the provision and documentation of all services as listed on the individual's IEP.

  • Provides consultative and direct services to students, teachers, job supervisors, and other staff, as needed, to monitor and implement the IEP and to arrange methods and modifications to meet individual student needs.

  • Counsels’ students with disabilities regarding their progress, behavior, or personal concerns.

  • Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops to improve provision of services and facilitate professional development.

  • Travels within the assigned area to work release centers housing students with disabilities to provide IEP services, documentation, and meetings.

  • Travels within the assigned area to institutions experiencing staffing shortages to support students with disabilities.

  • Maintains assigned equipment in good order.

  • Meets deadlines for paperwork and documentation of service provision, student progress, and expenses.

  • Designs, develops, and records lessons for use in live or pre-recorded instructional situations throughout the state.

  • Designs, develops, and presents professional development and/or technical assistance webinars at local, regional, state, and national meetings and conferences.

  • Maintains detailed documentation of activities and caseload.

  • Knowledge of information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effects.

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques.

  • Skills in using multiple approaches when learning or teaching new things.

  • Skills in talking to others to effectively convey information.

  • Skills in being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react the way they do.

  • Skills in developing approaches for implementing an idea.

  • Skills in assessing how well one is doing when learning or doing something.

  • Skills in listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate.

  • Skills in understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

  • Skills in communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience.

  • Skills in adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.

  • Ability to create Microsoft Word documents.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Possess or be eligible for Florida Professional Teacher Certification

  • Possess or be eligible for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Endorsement

  • Note: must obtain temporary teaching certificate, professional teacher certification, and ESE endorsement within established timeframes to continue employment in this position.
