NBT Bank Personal Department Manager in Syracuse, New York

Pay Range: $70,380.00 - $103,232.00

Manages and directs department activities and functions performing sales and/or service support for all distribution channels: telephone, face-to-face, and electronically. Ensure team members are qualified, trained, and coached to achieve optimum performance. Establishes and monitors team and individual sales and service goals: growth, retention, and quality standards of performance. Tracks and reports performance and measures against forecasted objectives and planned results. Creates and fosters a customer service culture that embraces organic growth and delivery of exceptional and best in class service. Routine travel may be necessary.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree and 7 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • 5 years of effective leadership experience required

  • Property & Casualty Broker's license and/or Life, Accident, and Health license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • Professional Insurance designation or ability to obtain within 12 months ​

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach and mentor others towards achieving personal and departmental goals;

  • Excellent verbal and listening skills; ability to effectively handle diverse customers and team members and to express empathy and concern;

  • Excellent business writing skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, research problems and make sound decisions using own judgement, manuals, and available resources;

  • Expert knowledge of insurance regulations, department workflows and guidance, and use of the agency management system and technology tools;

  • Ability to assess training needs and facilitate effective training of others in individual and group sessions whether face-to-face or remotely;

  • Highly capable of organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments on an individual and group level, paying attention to detail and focusing on quality;

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office;

  • Ability to travel as needed

Tasks Performed:

  • 40% Establish workflows, review performance audits to ensure efficiency of processing, and approve training plans. Monitor workload levels to ensure customer needs are met and implement adjustments when necessary;

  • 30% Facilitate regular department meetings with direct reports to ensure consistent performance results. Participate in team, agency and insurance carrier meetings. Provide feedback and suggestions to enhance our customers' experience and overall department/agency efficiency;

  • 10% Participate in the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of team members to ensure the most qualified candidates are selected. Ensure an effective on-boarding of newly-hired employees. Facilitate the off-boarding of team members when needed.

  • 10% Routinely meet with direct reports at least quarterly to provide feedback, coaching and guidance; document and escalate recommendations to department leader to address deficient performance or advancement opportunities for all team members;

  • 5% Serve as the point of contact for supervisor to escalate customer issues.

  • 5% Perform other duties as assigned

  • Stationary 75% of time or greater

  • Move Objects to Maximum 10 lbs
