Amazon Civil Engineer, DC Design Engineering in Sydney, Australia

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The Data Center Global Services (DCGS) team is looking for a passionate, results-oriented, inventive Civil Engineer to drive design and construction in a client-side technical lead role for the delivery of our enterprise data center campus projects.

As a Civil Engineer, you will work directly with our Real Estate, Design and Construction teams within your assigned region. You will be the engineering representative on behalf of the Data Center Engineering Team responsible for the successful delivery of projects, which meet strict quality and performance levels.

Utilizing your Civil Engineer knowledge, you will assist in data center site selection, preparation of due diligence reports, undertake site planning and development and play a pivotal role in the delivery of data center environments regionally.

Successful candidate will be strong leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. The DCGS business requires creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus. You must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required tasks. This includes working with many of the internal groups within Amazon as well as external consultants and developers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Innovative Design Environment: Collaborate on conceptual designs and maintain project documentation across the full project lifecycle, fostering creativity and ingenuity.

  • Standards Development: Shape the future of campus designs by developing and upholding design standards, create design prototypes, and specifications, ensuring excellence in every project.

  • Strategic Coordination: Work closely with internal partner teams to refine site selection criteria and evaluate investigation reports to support informed decision-making processes for campus development.

  • Leadership Opportunities: Lead the charge in managing external design consultants, guiding them through design and construction phases to achieve project delivery targets.

  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Engage with multi-disciplinary Architecture, Structure, and MEP design teams both internally and externally, facilitating seamless coordination and integration.

  • Effective Communication: Articulate design direction and requirements clearly to project partners, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with project objectives.

  • Dynamic Project Management: Thrive in a fast-paced environment by managing multiple projects simultaneously, showcasing your organizational prowess and adaptability.

  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Employ creative thinking to discover innovative solutions that optimize costs without compromising quality or reliability throughout the construction process.

  • Diverse Engagements: Enjoy a variety of engagements, including site assessments, design meetings, construction reviews, and interactions with regulatory authorities, with anticipated travel of approximately 25%.
