Our Fleet Sustainment Warehouse in Suffolk, VA is currently in need of an entry-level Material Distribution Handling Support 1 to handle material and warehouse services.

What You Will Do

  • Performs a combination of manual and clerical shipping and/or receiving duties which may require the use of hand trucks, forklifts, and other devices, as well as computers to maintain data.

  • Receives incoming materials or prepares materials for shipment. Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials; prepares records of materials shipped and bills of lading; routes materials to destinations.

  • May lay out, fabricate, and assemble nonstandard shipping crates and boxes, and prepare parts and tooling for special shipment.

  • Receive, store, and issue Naval shipboard supplies and equipment.

  • Verify accompanying documentation against container or packing labels.

  • Follow established procedures in reporting over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials.

  • Verify quantity, weight, and conformance of material; distribute material to multiple destinations.

  • Pack/repack a variety of items utilizing standard packing materials, methods, and techniques.

  • Determines appropriate method of packing based on the type of commodity/item to be packed.

  • May work onboard US Naval ships or in an industrial shipyard environment.

  • Perform other related duties and maintain warehouse cleanliness

  • Selected candidate will be trained to operate one or more types of material handling equipment such as: standard type forklift with a lifting capacity of 4,000 pounds up to 40,000 pounds, reach lift, and stock chaser/puller.

What You Must Have

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 0 years experience.

  • Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Confidential Security Clearance.

  • Candidate must have the ability to obtain a forklift and reach lift operator’s license.

  • Candidate must possess a valid, state driver's license.

  • Candidate must have prior warehouse experience

  • Candidate must have good communication skills both verbal and written

  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen

Bonus Points For Having!

  • Prior Military Logistics Experience.

  • Experience receiving, verifying, and examining incoming shipments to ensure accuracy of order quantities and product types.

  • Experience with unpacking material shipments to confirm consistency with records and route materials to the appropriate department.

  • Experience with rotating stock and disposal of expired products.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift forty pounds, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes and work in high heat/cold environments, aboard ships, under industrial conditions, in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme weather. Ability to operate portable power tools. Work may involve climbing and working on ladders.
