Stony Brook University Postdoctoral Associate - Genomics in Stony Brook, New York


Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in ecology, evolution, or other closely related fields to genomics, in hand by the end of 2024. Previously published scientific papers as lead or co-lead author. Programming experience, ideally in R. Experience working with whole genomes. Not a remote position, so must be capable of relocating to the region.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with high performance computing systems. Experience and working knowledge of squamate natural history, ecology and evolution. Experience with reproducible research and documentation best practice. Experience with macroevolutionary modeling, theory and practical matters. Experience with population genetics and genomics.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Pascal O. Title in the department of Ecology and Evolution. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. Successful incumbent will have the ability to communicate effectively across interdisciplinary studies, including non-specialists. Will work on several projects that involve multiple newly sequenced lizard and snake reference genomes. A primary goal will be to analyze these genomes in light of the unique natural history characteristics exhibited by these species, and by the clades they belong to, in concert with other published squamate genomes. One project will involve the analysis of unique characteristics of one of the first xantusiid night lizard genomes. Particular interest resides in developing projects that bridge broadscale macroevolutionary patterns in squamates with genomic mechanisms.

Duties:

Analyze data utilizing specialized skills.

Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.

Develop hypotheses that span genomes and macroevolution, analyze data utilizing specialized skills.

Manuscript preparation including writing, editing, figure preparation. Will collaborate with PI on results and technical details for publication of results. May also assist in grant writing.

Provide graduate and undergraduate mentoring in genomics and macroevolution.

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
