The Alumni Communities and Engagement team within Alumni Relations at the Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks a fixed-term Assistant Director, Alumni Relations, for a two-year role. The Assistant Director will work with alumni volunteers, staff, faculty, and students to execute a robust set of programs focused on increasing engagement of alumni with the school and with each other through regional, identity, and equity-focused chapters and groups.

Your primary responsibilities include*:

  • Participate in strategic and long-term planning for the Alumni Communities and Engagement team.

  • Ensure the regional, global, and cultural diversity of our alumni communities are embedded in our practices and then reviewed and implemented across all programs and activities.

  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers and volunteer-led projects.

  • Manage project teams consisting of staff and/or volunteers on programs that may affect a wide audience.

  • Develop robust alumni volunteer leadership pipelines, documenting structures created by chapters and groups.

  • Create systems and processes that streamline the support we provide to alumni volunteers and measure engagement and satisfaction of all alumni programming, driven by alumni volunteers or led by staff.

  • Market, plan, and/or manage alumni programs, educational opportunities, and/or other alumni initiatives.

  • Partner with staff, faculty, and students on programs to strengthen the connection between alumni and the school.

  • Design, maintain, and evaluate community-building activities that leverage Stanford Alumni Groups and other informal communication channels used by alumni.

  • Negotiate high-level contracts with vendors and contractors, in the United States and abroad, overseeing the quality of delivered products and services in adherence with Stanford University policies.

  • Work within External Relations and across the GSB to document and coordinate regional activities and measure the engagement these activities create.

  • Represent the organization to internal and external groups regarding business and program activities.

  • You will be available to work occasional nights and weekends as required.

  • Be flexible in completing any other additional assigned duties.

In this role, you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Equip our alumni with the practical insights, tools, and confidence to create, influence, and lead diverse and inclusive chapters and groups.

  • Participate in strategic planning and serve as a representative of the organization.

  • Market, plan, and/or manage alumni programs, educational opportunities, and/or other alumni initiatives.

  • Encourage our alumni to engage with the school in support of its mission.

  • Support our alumni by co-creating or developing programs that facilitate learning, career advancement, professional networking, and social engagement with other alumni and students in their regions and through virtual programming.

  • Create tools that will be used by alumni volunteers around the world that helps them organize, execute, and evaluate programs and activities in their communities.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, an appreciation of world affairs and culture, and volunteer development and oversight.

  • Strong interpersonal, team, and leadership skills; tact and flexibility in working with diverse populations.

  • Ability to juggle a vast quantity of incoming information, interruptions, and inquiries with a high level of professionalism and tolerance for ambiguity.

  • Proven decision-making skills, including understanding and solving complex questions using quantitative and qualitative data.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Computer proficiency and the desire to learn new systems.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to represent the GSB professionally, both internally and externally.

The expected pay range for this position is $83,000 to $100,000 per year.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
