JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is a critical component of POET’s consolidated financial reporting, and is responsible for emerging accounting issues analysis, internal audit program development, and extensive knowledge of GAAP. You are relied upon to independently identify and develop process improvements for financial reporting, analysis, and accounting procedures. Additionally, you are responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to internal stakeholders, while maintaining a high level of customer service. No task is too big or too small – you understand the importance of a cohesive team.
DURING A TYPICAL DAY
Completion of POET’s consolidated monthly financial reporting, including historical financial statements, compilation of subsidiary forecasts and projections, and comparison of actual to forecast.
Prepare cash flow statements and balance sheets.
Maintain general ledger to include the preparation of journal entries, account analysis and reconciliation, and monthly financial close.
Analyze financial reports and make recommendations.
Support ownership of the balance sheet, including fixed assets, reserves, and expenditures.
Build and maintain relationships with POET corporate department leads, includes working through forecast planning and monthly meetings.
Assist with financial audit and external compliance reporting.
Ensure proper internal control structure throughout the POET organization.
Design and implement fraud mitigation programs.
Independently identify and develop process improvements for financial reporting, analysis, and accounting procedures.
Design and implement financial reporting and analytical tools in response to business needs.
Conduct special studies and develop/recommend method and procedures.
May assign work to others within the department.
Work in an honest and ethical manner; maintain confidentiality on all business-related matters.
Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required;
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years accounting experience, 5+ years preferred.
Knowledge of computerized accounting system, ability to work with detail, and good organizational skills are a requirement.
Extensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Ability to make independent judgements and complete complex financial analysis.
You are a change agent – you hate the answer, “because we have always done it this way” and drive continual process improvement.
A CMA [C ertified Management Accountant] or CPA [Certified Public Accountant] is preferred.
Experience in a public accounting firm is highly desired.
Experience with multiple-entity consolidations and financial auditing is helpful.
You are proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite. You are capable of learning new programs.
