Bellefaire JCB Special Education Teacher in Shaker Heights, Ohio

The Monarch School Special Education Teacher is charged with the responsibility of instructing students in a specific discipline or course of study and is expected to provide the highest caliber of instruction in individual and/or small class settings.  The Monarch School Special Education Teacher is supervised by the Lead Teacher.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Responsible for conducting appropriate planning’s for each student and class which they instruct including, but not limited to:

  • Help determine and implement each individual student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP)

  • Develop lesson plans for small groups and/or individual instruction based on current diagnostic evaluations, keeping in mind the student’s strengths and weaknesses and using appropriate learning and teaching modalities in carrying out instructions.

  • In all instructional areas, supervise each student in class and provide general supervision of all students during transitional times such as passing between classes.

  • Special Education Teachers must be alert to safety aspects in both the classroom and the school in general.  Accidents must be reported to the Director and accident reports must be completed by the end of the school day.

  • In conjunction with the Agency Facilities and/or Safety personnel, implement fire and safety measures.  Teachers are responsible for providing instruction to students on fire and safety measures.

  • Responsible for writing narrative progress reports that detail the nature of the subject matter being studied and each individual student’s progress.  Progress information will be frequently transmitted by classroom teachers to supervisors.  A minimum of two (2) progress evaluations will be completed during the school year.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Special Education Teachers are expected to participate in staff meetings that take place after school on a regularly scheduled basis.  Typically meetings focus on individual students, classroom curriculum, and behavior management.

  • Special Education Teachers are expected to participate in training sessions and workshops during the school year that are provided as part of the staff development program.

  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training.

  • All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.

  • Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment.  All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.

  • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree

  • Licensure: Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate

  • Skills: Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.

Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.

Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in using Agency computer systems and software as required to perform essential job functions.

Practical and creative problem solving skills.

  • Experience:  Combination of education, training and/or experience in working with autistic children.
