Description
The AWS Industry Products (AIP) team directly collaborates with strategic customers to build new, industry-specific products that directly impact and transform industries at AWS scale. We are a team of innovators that tackle difficult problems, and build products through fast iteration in a start-up like environment.
We are looking for a principal engineer with expertise, ambition and passion for solving difficult problems in the Healthcare and Life Sciences (HCLS) domain. HCLS specific experience is strongly preferred, especially in areas of clinical decision support, clinical trials, biomedical ontology applications, clinical multimodal data management (genomics/multi-omics/imaging), and security/privacy-enhancing/regulatory based designs (HIPAA, GxP, etc.). Additionally, technical experience in large distributed systems, 1P/3P data access & marketplaces, semantically complex data, generative AI / LLMs are all big pluses.
As a senior technical leader, you will join Amazon's most senior Technical Community, a cross-company collective of Principal, Senior Principal and Distinguished Engineers. This group helps establish technical standards and drives AWS's overall technical architecture and engineering practices. These leaders work on AWS' hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. AWS' senior technical contributors are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Their expertise is deep and broad; hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs but, driven to engage with business problems and leaders to invent simple solutions with real-world application.

Basic Qualifications
10+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
Knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing and building large-scale systems in a multi-tiered, distributed environment (Service Oriented Architecture)
Experience influencing groups outside their own VP from architecture perspective
Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
9+ years developing software in healthcare, life science, or a related field

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $180,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $311,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
