The University of Washington Investment Management Company (UWINCO) manages over $8.5 billion of endowment, operating and life income funds for the University. This Program Financial Analyst position will be responsible for multiple aspects of operational duties for the University's investment portfolio, which includes over 100 external investment managers. Critical to investment program success, this position will be responsible for executing trades and transactions, maintaining internal databases and systems, generating various internal reports, and working closely with counterparties and custody banks. The UWINCO Operations team works closely with the diligence function of the Portfolio Management team before and after each investment is funded.
The position requires knowledge of institutional investment strategies as well as an understanding of various performance measurement methodologies and portfolio risk characteristics. The position requires advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly advanced skills in Excel and experience producing charts, graphs and tables. Experience with custodial bank systems, CRM software and portfolio management systems is desired. Successful candidates should be highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy. In addition to performing sophisticated analyses, the position often leads or assists in other projects that impact the strategic direction of the office. This position requires the ability to work independently and take ownership of processes. Requires independent judgment in planning and decision making regarding all aspects of UWINCO business operations. Must be capable of managing multiple and competing priorities with frequent tight deadlines accurately and confidentially while demonstrating discretion and independent judgment. Flexibility to work various hours as needed.
The position is instrumental in the daily operational processes for UWINCO and in the preparation of investment reporting for stakeholders across campus, including the Board of Regents, UWINCO Board, CIO, COO, UW Treasury, and UW Foundation. Investment reporting helps facilitate monitoring and decision making regarding the University's $8.5 billion investment portfolios. The success of the investment program is critical to the financial well-being of the University.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operational Management (65%)
• Manage daily operational processes; coordinate investment related transactions including new subscriptions, redemptions, and all capital call and distribution activities. • Reconcile cash, investment transactions and market values with custodian system. • Track and maintain large volumes of data and heavily use UWINCO’s performance, analytics and reporting system.
Reporting (20%)
• Initiate preparation of monthly and quarterly investment reporting packages to the BOR, UWINCO Board, senior management and other stakeholders. • Produce and analyze various internal compliance reports.
Special Projects and Other Duties (15%)
• Manage investment operations projects. • Participate in operational due diligence of existing and potential managers. • Ensure proper onboarding of new investments on custodian and other monitoring systems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting. • Approximately 6 or more years’ of accumulated professional experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to anticipate the needs of the operations unit. • Excellent oral and written communication skills in an environment requiring judgment in managing internal and external interactions.Ability to deal tactfully and equitably with people and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. • Ability to adjust to rapid changes and execute fluid management of multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. • Experience managing operational processes and projects. • Highly organized with ability to multi-task, prioritize and work both independently and collaboratively to produce high quality work product. • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact with custodian, investment managers, vendors and other professionals. • Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Institutional investment experience with basic knowledge of a variety of asset classes, such as public and private equity, hedge funds, and fixed income. • Experience with custodial bank systems, CRM software (Bipsync), portfolio management software (Caissa). • CFA, MBA or CPA desired.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
UWINCO is an innovative office of professionals working as a quality focused, collaborative team. UWINCO manages more than $8.5 billion of investments including the Consolidated Endowment Fund and the Invested Funds that are regularly reviewed by the BOR, UWINCO Board, investment consultants, rating agencies and peer institutions and foundations. Implementation and reporting on investments made requires planning, coordination, clarity, and attention to detail. Position interacts with multiple team members daily on a variety of ongoing projects. Open communication and synergistic interactions with UWINCO staff, UW’s custodial bank and investment managers are necessary for successful implementation. Processes require working under periodic deadline pressures and longer hours during peak reporting periods.
