This role will support Starbucks in overhauling its Workforce Management ecosystem to uplift the experience of our store partners and better capture customer demand. This role will support the development of a best-in-class scheduling engine that balances the needs of our store partners against business priorities. This role will be crucial to ensure the model is executing in accordance with business and legal requirements and delivering its strategic objectives.

As a senior decision scientist, you will…

  • Work cross-functionally to collect, understand, and transcribe requirements supporting the scheduling model within the workforce management ecosystem

  • Translate rules into optimization model logic; constraints, objective function parameters

  • Define multi-objective optimization functions to maximize business outcomes, maximize partner wellbeing, and meet business and legal requirements

  • Gain alignment from stakeholders across Data Science & Engineering, Operations, PRO (HR), Strategy, Finance, and ST (IT) to ensure scheduling logic delivers desired results

  • Support a team of data scientists responsible for implementing scheduling logic into production system

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • BA/BS concentration preferred with discipline in Stats, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering, Ecom,Psychology, Quantitative Social Science, or similar.

  • Ability to handle, and maintain the confidentiality of, highly sensitive information.

  • Skilled experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong Proficiency with SQL, SAS, Python or R

  • Skilled knowledge of statistics (descriptive, regression, etc.)

  • Business experience with several data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

  • Retail, customer loyalty, or eCommerce experience preferred

  • At least 3 years of experience in a related field or utilizing designated skills

We’d especially love to hear from people with:

  • Experience working on AI/ML optimization problems

  • Experience working with operations research optimization problems (linear programming, MIP, robust optimization)

  • Experience strategically supporting highly complex, highly cross-functional data science programs

  • Experience with models related to workforce management; staffing, scheduling, resource allocation and retail operations roles and routines.
