Workers must be able to take direction in simple English. Must have experience with Thoroughbred stallions and younger Thoroughbreds. Must be capable of handling fractious young horses. Must have minimum of 3 months experience.
The job description is for a farmworker/groom for a Thoroughbred horse breeding farm ', NACIS code 112920, SOC code 45-0000, ONET code 45-2093 Farmworkers, farm, ranch. The occupational Title is Farmworker Livestock code 410.664.010 with SVP 4. The job includes feeding, watering, cleaning stalls, grooming, bathing, giving medications, bandaging, detecting illness and injuries, walking horses and turning horses out. These activities take place during our farms peak season which spans from January 1, when the breeding and foaling season begins, through the end of October when the thoroughbred yearling sales end. During this time, the number of horses increases considerably from 70-75 broodmares (which have 65-75 foals each year) to approximately 200-300 horses in our farm ranging from broodmares, foals, weanlings, yearlings and stallions.
