  • Master’s degree in special education, social work, developmental education, or a related field or a master’s degree in any field and demonstrated skills and experiences relevant to the program’s needs;

  • Experience working with students with IDD in K-12 and or/young adults/students with IDD in an educational or volunteer setting;

  • Awareness of and ability to implement comprehensive practices at the postsecondary level;

  • Ability to plan, conduct, and implement evidence-based practices to support students with IDD in academic and career-related activities;

  • Experience working with students and families from various racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds as well as other marginalized populations;

  • Ability to understand and communicate well across a variety of stakeholders and constituents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in special education, social work, developmental education, or a related field and considerable skills and experiences relevant to the program’s needs;

  • 2 years of experience working with young adults/students with IDD in an educational or volunteer setting;

  • Experience carrying out, managing, or coordinating projects or programs for individuals with disabilities in a postsecondary education setting;

  • Strong background in supporting students from a myriad of racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds as well as other marginalized populations in higher education, K-12 schools, or in the community;

  • Experience designing and implementing assessment or learning outcomes in an educational setting for students with IDD (e.g., experience reading IEPs, participating in ARD meetings, implementing well rounded practices in the classroom);

  • Experience addressing the needs of students in K-12 with IDD and/or young adults with IDD at the high school or postsecondary education level;

  • Assisting with the management of grants, especially federally funded and/or multi-million-dollar grants;

  • Knowledge of research, theories, literature, and trends in comprehensive education, accommodations, modification, and other supports for students with disabilities at the postsecondary education level;

  • Experience with book-keeping, reporting, and/or budgeting;

  • Previous work in a project coordinator or similar role;

  • Experience supporting employment activities (e.g., job skills development, job search, job training, and on-the-job support) for students with disabilities in the community.

  • Knowledge of four-year university systems and components and ability to communicate and work well across a variety of stakeholders and constituents.

Job Description

Responsible for performing a wide range of FLSA exempt duties. This position is in-person on the San Marcos campus.

Job Duties

  • Serve as Employment Specialist for Bobcat RISE Program;

  • Create and teach Bobcat RISE Employment Courses;

  • Create, supervise, oversee, and coordinate job shadowing, volunteer, work-study, paid and unpaid internship, and employment opportunities for Bobcat RISE students on campus and off campus with appropriate support according to the program guidelines;

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with campus faculty and departments focusing on instructors who will allow our students in their courses or can provide employment opportunities for our students and coordinate students, support staff, and faculty to make modifications as needed for students to make satisfactory academic progress;

  • Assist the Program Director and other Program Staff in maintaining collaborative relationships with campus and community partners focusing on areas of study, courses, and employment opportunities to provide a pool of peer mentors (student to student) to support our students;

  • Assist with curriculum development as needed;

  • Provide communications between the IPSE program and TXST and the broader community including specialized sites that serve people with IDD and outreach events;

  • Provide oversight for communication between the IPSE program and community via dissemination of information through social media, website, and other official university outlets;

  • Assist with admissions processes and orientation activities;

  • Assist the Program Director in collecting and analyzing program data to inform an iterative process of program improvement.

  • Other duties as assigned.
