  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience working with college students in a professional capacity.

  • Demonstrated skill in using computer software, specifically MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel (must address software individually).

  • Demonstrated experience presenting and/or speaking to groups of 10 or more.

  • Demonstrated professional work experience interpreting and explaining complex policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other team members.

  • Demonstrated ability to write coherently and precisely.

  • Demonstrated ability for attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with music majors in a professional capacity.

  • Professional academic advising experience in higher education.

  • Demonstrated professional experience using Banner student information software.

  • Demonstrated professional experience using DegreeWorks degree audit software.

Job Description

Responsible for providing quality undergraduate advising to current and prospective College of Fine Arts and Communication majors. Serves as both an academic advisor and resource to undergraduate students in the College of Fine Arts and Communication.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate, plan, and prepare for advising sessions.

  • Advise students on topics related to academic majors and provide guidance and assistance with academic progress.

  • Assist students in interpreting degree audit reports and transcripts as well as explaining complex academic policies, performing complicated grade point average calculations, and providing referrals to other offices and services on campus.

  • Provide accurate information about educational options, academic requirements, and university policies.

  • Assist in processing applications for graduation.

  • Maintain confidential student files and records through accurate and thorough documentation.

  • Recognize and address the needs and concerns of a varied student population.

  • Provide general information and outstanding customer service to students, parents, and other members of the public.

  • Participate in University efforts towards recruitment and retention such as Bobcat Day, New Student Orientation, and any other university functions related position.

Additional Information to Applicants

(Normal hours are M-F 8-5 but some night/weekend work is required for participation in Bobcat Day, Commencement, and other outreach events.)
