Job Description:
Provide systems engineering support by installing, configuring, and deploying open source operating system solutions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Build, configure, manage, and troubleshoot operating systems and applications using RHEL
Build, configure, manage, and troubleshoot physical servers to include racking and stacking, cabling, and associated peripherals such as KVMs
Apply and mitigate DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) controls to open-source operating systems and applications
Analyze network performance and address issues within the virtualized network using KVM
Maintain the San Diego commercial satellite communications test facility (“Test Access Point Name (APN)”) in a high state of readiness to support over-the-air Inmarsat communications tests from Boeing and other primary airframe integrators
Maintain technical currency with the design baseline for the AN/USQ-144K(v)1 ADNS Increment III shore network, particularly as it affects satellite communications for supported aircraft
Collaborate with other NAVAIR-sponsored project engineers at NIWC-PAC, particularly on those matters that affect the design, operation and modernization of critical network infrastructure shared by multiple manned and unmanned air platforms
Participate in technical reviews and provide analysis of proposed changes to the USNTANs hardware and software baselines
Provide Technical Assistance to Aircraft Squadron Personnel and Boeing Factory Representatives
Required Qualifications
3+ Years hands-on experience with open source operating systems and applications such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
3+ Years of hands-on experience working with physical servers to include racking and stacking, cabling, and associated peripherals such as KVM's
2+ years hands-on experience with applying DISA STIG Controls to Open Source operating systems and applications
1+ Years of experience with applying and mitigating DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide's (STIG's)
Desire to learn network fundamentals and network protocols such as TCP/IP, and SNMP
Must possess the ability to perform in a heavy customer facing role with strong verbal, professional, and written skills
Self-starter: ability to organize own work to meet project goals and deadlines
Must have Comptia Security+ certification (or higher) to meet DOD 8570 IAT II requirements, in addition to any of the following Operating Environment (OE) certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Comptia Linux+, or equivalent OS-specific training
Desired Qualifications
Experience working with Airborne or Navy Tactical Platforms (ADNS, UCLASS, MQ-25A, STACC)
Experience with network engineering configuration highly preferred
Experience with hypervisor platforms, such as Proxmox (Highly Preferred), or VMware ESXi
Experience with Git repositories for storing configuration data and code
Experience with delivering systems engineering artifacts to include test plans, configuration guides, and Analysis of Alternatives (AoA's)
Familiarity with Python scripting to develop automated unit, integration, and performance tests
Familiarity with automated provisioning, configuration and management using Ansible
Familiarity with the YANG data model and experience with the NETCONF and RESTCONF network management protocol
Cisco CCNA or equivalent experience highly desired
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree or four additional years of relevant experience
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Secret upgradable to TS/SCI
