Applications Engineer - Plastics Injection Molding

MMI Engineered Solutions is seeking Applications Engineers with expertise in plastics injection molding to join our dynamic Engineering Team. Headquartered in Saline, Michigan, with additional offices in Troy, Warren, and Monterrey Mexico, we specialize in providing cutting-edge engineering solutions for advanced composites and engineered resins across diverse industries.

Summary of Position:

As an Applications Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in solution development and client interfacing across various levels within MMI. This position demands creativity and the ability to tackle complex challenges head-on. You will be involved in every stage of the product development process, from initial concept to final delivery, ensuring adherence to industry standards and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine quotations encompassing plastic injection molded part design, mold design, production molding, post-molding operations, fixtures, and quality gauges.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to identify and implement solutions aimed at weight reduction, cost efficiency, enhanced performance, and functionality improvement.
  • Document application-driven issues and integrate them into comprehensive solutions.
  • Oversee original engineering drawing documentation and maintain control over changes.
  • Evaluate and approve Engineering Change Orders, ensuring seamless implementation and monitoring.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and approvals of part designs and first article/PPAP submissions.
  • Provide leadership in concept development, material selection, mold design, process engineering, and quality assurance.
  • Facilitate project kick-offs, prototype builds, DFMEA sessions, mold design reviews, and engineering schedules.
  • Develop accurate program costs and adhere to established budgets.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and agility in problem-solving.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent product design experience; alternatively, a degree in Polymer Engineering with a focus on injection molding.

Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in the design and/or manufacturing of tools for complex molded components.
