Roanoke College Dining Services Cook I in Salem, Virginia

Roanoke College has a growing and dynamic dining program, positioning ourselves to be responsive to the changing needs of our campus population. Our program is responsible for the foodservice operations on the campus and include all-you-care-to-eat, national brand, and retail dining; catering; concessions; and food truck operations. We are seeking to employ multiple Level 1 Cooks who can accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for meals for the Sutton Commons and catering. Key Responsibilities: • Prepare and cook foods, including special dietary requirements, by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to mix, measure, peel, cut, trim, etc. • Ensure that all food items are prepared according to specifications set forth in the production sheets and dining service management. • Apply proper methods of safety and sanitation as instructed by the VDH and dining service management and maintain a clean and sanitized work station. • Adhere to College food quality standards in regards to timeliness, taste and appearance. • Complete production sheets accurately and on a timely basis to ensure proper ordering and inventory levels. • Inspects all equipment for proper functioning and reports requests for repairs. Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities: • High school diploma/GED preferred. • 1 year of related work experience. • Ability to operate standard industrial kitchen equipment. • Ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised. • Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect. • Respect for safety regulations and takes pride in maintaining a clean workspace and kitchen. • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays. • Ability to meet attendance requirements, which include showing up on time with satisfactory regularity. • Lift up to 40 lbs. Our staff must display courtesy, tact and respect in all interactions with our students, members of the RC community, and with the general public. This full-time, 9 month position follows the academic calendar and will start on August 14, 2023. Must be able to work every other weekend. Uniforms and non-slip safety shoe allowance provided, along with a free meal on scheduled work days.
