Aston Carter Payroll Specialist in Sacramento, California

Job Title: Payroll SpecialistJob Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage full cycle payroll for both exempt and non-exempt employees. This role involves conducting semi-monthly payroll and requires in-house high-volume experience. The position offers growth potential and the opportunity to work in a stable organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review timesheets for accuracy

  • Process separation checks

  • Download and review tax withholding forms

  • Research inquiries regarding payroll transactions

  • Complete wage verification reports

  • Enter payroll data to balance payroll to the GL

  • Obtain timesheet approval for unapproved timesheets from prior pay periods

  • Review pay statement account number changes

  • Audit accrual adjustments

  • Act as backup for payroll processing for all payroll cycles (salary and hourly semi-monthly payroll for approximately 2,000 employees)

  • Respond to email inquiries

  • Answer phones

  • Perform other data entry assignments as needed

Essential Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in full cycle payroll

  • Experience with high volume payroll (minimum of 800 employees)

  • Proficiency in payroll processing and software (UKG or Kronos)

  • Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables and vlookups

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a non-profit organization is a plus but not required

  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (Workforce Ready)

Work Environment

This role is based in an office environment. Training will be conducted onsite 100%, with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement once training is completed. The organization offers a stable work environment with growth potential.
