Labcorp Molecular Genetics Lab Supervisor in RTP, North Carolina

The Supervisor will provide guidance and direction to the staff, assist in the development of new procedures and processes, advise in talent planning, perform validations, troubleshoot instrumentation, ensure time frames are met, and more! The schedule for this position will be: 3rd shift M-F 11:00pm-7:30am (week would start Sunday night at 11pm). The training schedule may be on 1st.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide training, guidance and direction to the staff.

  • Assist in developing and implementing laboratory procedures; researching and developing new techniques, processes and applications.

  • Troubleshootequipment,processproblemsandtracesamplesasnecessary.

  • Maintain liaison with Manager, all shifts, customers and departments regarding inquires and problems of a technical nature.

  • Ensure that preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to for optimal performance of equipment.

  • Assist in planning for adequate personnel and equipment to ensure sufficient coverage to meet demands in the department.

  • Review and maintain company/department procedures, plans, objectives and policies; ensure they are understood, implemented and interpreted by staff.

  • Maintain all records as required by departments and various regulatory agencies and perform other duties required to meet department and company goals.

  • Performs all administrative personnel functions in the department (i.e., hiring, performance evaluation, increase recommendations). Provides expertise and guidance to staff to ensure that they have the necessary tools to perform their job.

  • Participates in proficiency testing as required.

  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies and maintains appropriate logs and records as required by department, company and various regulatory agencies.

  • Participates in validating and/or writing test procedures. Adapts methodologies, and works on new methods under general supervision. Evaluates new procedures or methods, while maintaining open lines of communication with employees to ensure that they are kept up to date with procedures and information.

  • Coordinates or assists with new equipment evaluations.

  • Represents laboratory to outside vendors.

  • Acts as a liaison with other departments and customers on technical inquiries and test results.

  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

  • Maintains adequate stock of working supplies, notified Lab Manager of any shortages.

  • ParticipatesinrequiredContinuingEducationactivities.

  • Serves as an example and resource to other testing laboratory personnel.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Biology, Chemistry, or related Life Science is required.

  • 5 years of clinical lab testing experience with human specimens is required; 7 years is preferred.

  • Understanding the theory and applications of PCR; knowledge of supplies, specimen handling, reagent quality control and safety is required.

  • Experience in Molecular Genetics is highly preferred.

  • Hamilton or Tecan liquid handler experience is highly preferred.

  • AMT or ASCP certification is preferred.
