University of Rochester Residential Life Area Admin II in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Area Coordinator for Residential Life will have primary oversight for the students, staff and facilities of the Student Living Center tower and six houses (this includes themed living areas:(ex. Entertainment Floor, Quiet Floor, Music of the World, Stringbusters, All-female floors, and the Culinary Floor).

The Area Coordinator reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. In general, Area Coordinators at the University of Rochester – Eastman School of Music are responsible for the oversight of residential areas housing between 600-1000 undergraduate students. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: staff supervision, supporting student learning opportunities, CARE referrals, community development, adjudication of area conduct, and crisis management and response. The Area Coordinator is responsible for creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that increases student retention and success.

This is a live-in/12-month position. This live-in position includes a furnished one-bedroom apartment on campus with all utilities, meal plan, high speed internet, cable and premium channels. Living on campus provides many opportunities to enhance the college experience. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Residential Life Supervision Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises a Graduate Head Resident, eleven Resident Advisors, student workers, and Resident Fellows. Supervisory responsibilities include team building, goal and expectation setting, training and development, advising, staff meeting, formal and information evaluation, and other personnel related activities.

  • Ensures staff and residents are aware of the rules and responsibilities of the housing system. Assists students in developing behavioral standards appropriate to group living in an academic institution.

  • Plans and leads weekly Resident Advisor meetings, supports RAs by addressing on-call questions and following up with concerns

  • Coordinates Resident Advisor responsibilities during openings, closings, winter break, and is responsible for making sure RAs complete community building/program model, individual meetings, and staff meetings.

  • Supervises the Resident Advisors and GHR in planning, managing, ordering, procuring, accessing, and storing supplies for community building programs, events, and activities.

  • Assures compliance with all applicable fire, health and safety regulations. Coordinates with appropriate departments for fire, health and safety inspections. Follows-up on all health, safety, and security reports to ensure problems have been corrected.

  • Supervises regular inspections of the residence to ensure that appropriate facilities and cleanliness standards are being maintained.

Student Support Responsibilities

  • Presents a comprehensive student development program for the residential area aimed at the creation of an inclusive residential community. This includes social, educational, cultural and recreational programs; student theme housing advising and leadership development programs; emergency response procedures; counseling, advising, and referral mechanisms; intervention, mediation and adjudication, etc.

  • Provides personal counseling and advisement to individual students, special interest committees, and the Resident Advisor staff on matters regarding living accommodations, roommate concerns, and related student issues.

  • Actively updates and utilizes the CARE referral system and Student Conduct system, named Advocate. Meets with students on conduct and non-conduct related concerns. Follows up on sanctions and student support/advocacy.

  • Advises/counsels individuals and groups of students on personal, residential living, and other matters. Makes referrals to other areas of the University when appropriate.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Administers the damage billing processes and is connects with the bursar for matters related to the Student Living Center. Publishes notifications to students regarding community damages, vandalism, and accountability. Responds to questions and concerns from students and parents. Maintains communication with Office of Student Affairs and with other departments important to Residential Life's successful operation (Public Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Academic Affairs, Dining Services, Facilities, Maintenance, etc.). Significant liaison role with Environmental Services Supervisor, and mechanical and trades staff.

  • Assists the Asst. Dean of Student Affairs with the RA Selection, Room Draw (housing selection), and Student Worker Selection processes.

  • Assists the Asst. Dean of Student Affairs in updating and maintaining departmental online presence and print materials, including but not limited to website content, social media outlets, and monthly newsletters.

  • Participates in committee, research, and special projects related to student development with effective management and delivery of programs and services. This includes work within Residential Life, Eastman School of Music, and may include other areas of the University.

Summer Session Responsibilities

  • Working with other staff in the Office of Student Affairs, develops a comprehensive plan for housing and events for Summer@Eastman, including the selection, training, and supervision of counselors, assistants, and an assistant manager to support summer music programs.

  • Coordinates the summer operations as assigned. Organizes staffing, building preparation, billing, check-in and check-out processes.

Other Responsibilities

  • Other Duties - As designated by supervisor. May also include option to serve with other campus departments.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree required.

  • 1-3 Years of Professional Experience required.

  • Strong consideration will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience working with music students and thematic living communities preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $18.65 - $26.11 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
