Job Description Summary
At Avio Aero, a GE Aerospace Company, we’ve been reimagining the power of flight for more than 100 years. We are specialized in the design, production and maintenance of components and systems for engine and mechanical transmissions applied to both civil and military aviation (i.e., accessory drivetrains, engine thermal management, turboprop & helicopter reduction gearboxes, etc.).
Within the AvioAero Advanced Technology Organization, the Engine Performance & Operability section is responsible for the definition of the engine performance, notably steady state, transient & operability, from the initial phase of the New Product Introduction (NPI) development, post preliminary design, until the engine certification, including ground and flight testing validation.
As a technical expert in the field of Performance & Operability, the Performance & Operability Lead Engineer will join the team to lead the engine performance analysis, steady state and transient model development & validation by ground and flight testing, operability assessment, on new engines development for commercial and military applications such as GE Catalyst for Textron Denali and Eurodrone, and advanced technology demonstrators, such as AMBER, the new hybrid-electric technology demonstration program that will integrate the GE Catalyst engine with electrical power from fuel cells.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
Work cross functionally with Controls, Operability, Systems, Aero, Heat Transfer, and hardware design engineers to accurately model and validate engine performance.
Technical leadership of complex projects involving multiple stakeholders. Manage resources assigned to the project, prioritize activities to deliver program objectives on time, while meeting cost and quality requirements.
Lead efforts to validate and update the engine cycle and integrated transient model according to internal practice/standard and test evidence.
Lead cross functional teams in preparation of performance audits and program design/technical reviews.
Effectively communicate, present technical data and provide recommendations to internal and external GE customers.
Utilize the latest thermodynamic modeling tools to analyze engine performance & operability data and provide technical direction to make program decisions.
Liaise with the Controls organization to define the power management and performance control/limiting schedules.
Contribute to definition of engine operability requirements (e.g. compressor stability, inclement weather, transient scheduling).
Support operability tasks during test validation and engine certification phase.
Lead engine test planning, coverage and data analysis for engine tests.
Provide technical guidance, direction and training to less experienced engineers.
Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.
Ensure proper documentation of all work.
Qualifications/Requirements
Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college
Good experience in engineering position in aerospace industry in Performance, Operability, Transient Analysis and/or Controls or similar role
Demonstrated experience in engine thermodynamic modeling and/or test data support and analysis
Strong analytical skills and knowledge of thermodynamics and aerodynamics
Fluency in English and Italian
Work Visa, according to local regulations, is required.
Desired Characteristics
Proven experience in a performance related position.
Prior Turboprop/Turbofan/Turbojet engine experience.
Prior engine qualification and/or certification experience.
Previous experience with industry or GE thermodynamic modeling tools, especially NPSS.
Familiarity with simulation tools and high level program languages (C++, MATLAB, FORTRAN etc.).
Effective in contributing in a cross-functional teamwork environment.
In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Team worker and problem solver.
Solid oral and written communication skills.
