Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, supervisor, and/or director of pharmacy services, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system intravenous admixture program and out-patient distribution system. Responsible to maintain confidential reports, enter and retrieve data utilizing the computer system, prepare intravenous medication, including but not limited to hazardous drug preparations, total parenteral nutrition and antibiotics, fill automated medication dispensing system with a supply of unit dose medications, procure and fill requests for pharmaceutical supplies and delivery of supplies to nursing units, procure and fill out-patient prescriptions and prescription check out to out-patients. Responsible for assisting a pharmacist with the filling and dispensing of medication orders including the proper handling, usage, and storage of drugs in the pharmacy and any other pharmaceutical duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High School diploma or equivalent 2. WV Registered Pharmacy Technician 3. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (if not already registered as a WV Pharmacy Technician) 4. Current Registered WV license (or eligible for license as a pharmacy technician by PTCB or the NHA national certification. 5. To maintain PTCB or NHA CPhT certification the pharmacy Technician (CPhT) must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of continuing education (CE) during each two (2) year recertification cycle inpharmacy technician-specific subject matter.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. 6-12 months of pharmacy experience

  1. With the use of an automated dispensing system printout, fills each MedStation with a supply of medications according to set PAR levels.
  2. Verifies the contents of automated dispensing system stock by checking stock filled by pharmacy student or pharmacist.
  3. Fills patient medication orders with the correct medication from computer generated labels and delivers medication before the next scheduled medication round.
  4. Fills and delivers narcotic orders to nursing units and ancillary departments according to policy and procedures
  5. Delivers checked medications to the nursing units. Refills automated dispensing system MedStations to prescribed par levels. Report unusual occurrences to the pharmacists
  6. Checks outdates and maintains crash cart medication stock per par levels established
  7. Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply.
  8. Reorders pharmacy supplies from the hospital purchasing department
  9. Bills/credits patient medications by use of the computer charging system or the remote charging system.
  10. Accurately enters new medication orders in the Meditech pharmacy module for the pharmacist to verify
  11. Maintains pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion and inspects pharmacy for outdated drugs
  12. Responsible for the proper disposal of all materials used in the preparation of hazardous medications and IV additive medications
