We seek applicants who are dedicated to servingThe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’sstudent body as a Part-Time Lecturer ofthe Department of Health and Human Performancebeginning in the 2024-2025 academic year to teach in its Bachelor’s/Master’s Kinesiology, Exercise Science and Health programs. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction within the program in the required format. Department/CollegeBackground

The Department of Health and Human Performance is under the UTRGV College of Health Professions and offers BS degrees in Kinesiology, Health, and Exercise Science. It offers MS degrees in Kinesiology, Exercise Science and a certificate in Health Professions Education and Technology.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualifications to be considered as a part-time lecturer is a master’s degree in Kinesiology & Exercise Science or a related field of study with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate instruction in Kinesiology or Exercise Science from an accredited institution. A doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health, or a related field is required to teach graduate level courses.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Earned master’s degree in the areas Kinesiology or Exercise Science or a related field of study with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate instruction in Kinesiology or Exercise Science from an accredited institution, with a record of success, or evidence of potential success in teaching.

Preferred Qualification

Experience in teaching exercise science and kinesiology at the college level is highly desirable with demonstrated excellence in teaching and service in the field. Certifications in Certified Strength and Conditioning ( CSCS ) from National Strength and Conditioning Association and Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C) from American College of Sports Medicine ( ACSM ) also preferred credentials. Teaching certification is physical education is also a preferred credential.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language ( TOEFL ) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System ( IELTS ).
