Senior Talend Developer

Location: Hybrid, 3 weeks remote + 1 week on-site in Richmond, VA

Position type: C2C 1099 or Full-time W2 employee available

Length of contract (if C2C): 1 year with possible extension

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Talend ETL developer to join our team and build the next generation of data systems to support our clients. As part of our technology delivery and consulting practice, you will work as an ETL expert for a high-profile project. You will be responsible for the project lifecycle from requirements gathering, implementation, guide production rollouts, and create highly optimized bath and real-time applications. This position is responsible for collaborating with all levels of the organization. 

Responsibilities:

  • Reverse Engineering: Reverse engineer existing SSIS jobs and document them thoroughly.

  • Workflow Documentation: Prepare detailed workflow charts and diagrams that describe source-to-target mapping and transformations.

  • ETL Development:

  • Develop, unit test, and deploy ETL solutions using Talend modules such as Talend Open Studio for Data Integration, Big Data, ESB, Data Quality, etc.

  • Knowledge working with REST API requests and parsing semi-structured xml/json data is desirable.

  • Knowledge in Talend Cloud.

  • Technical Documentation: Contribute to technical design documents, use cases, test cases, and user manuals for various projects.

  • Testing and Bug Fixes: Conduct bug fixes, code reviews, and perform unit, functional, and integration testing.

  • Consultation: Consult with and assist business and technical leadership to clarify intent, identify problems, and implement changes.

  • Clear Documentation: Clearly document business, functional, and technical logic.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience using Talend.

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience using SSIS.

  • 6 to 10 years of overall hands-on IT experience.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Strong background and hands-on experience in ETL and Data Warehousing (DWH) appliances.

  • Ability to reverse engineer complex SSIS packages and recreate them in Talend.

  • Knowledge of Azure Data Lake or Blob Storage is a plus.

  • Proficient in traditional RDBMS systems like MS SQL Server.

  • Knowledge in Hadoop ecosystem is a plus

  • Knowledge in Snowflake (Cloud-based data storage) is a plus

  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate professionally in English, both verbally and in writing with both specialized engineers and non-technical users.

  • Analytical Skills: Prior experience in performance tuning, relational model analysis, schema, and data migration.

  • Methodology: Prior experience working in an agile software development environment.
