The Windows Services and Delivery (WSD) team focuses on creating and delivering Windows update packages that ensure millions of devices remain secure, up-to-date, and optimized. WSD oversees the infrastructure that supports seamless upgrades, combining automation with user control to provide a dependable and efficient Windows servicing process. WSD is hiring Software Engineers (Software Engineer II and Senior Software Engineer positions available) , to help make a global impact on every Windows device.

As a Software Engineer , you will contribute to designing and refining package delivery systems, enhancing automation, and ensuring smooth deployments across a wide ecosystem. You will have the opportunity to offer hands-on experience in managing large-scale updates, optimizing deployment processes, and integrating systems, helping you develop expertise in automation, packaging, and continuous delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.

  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.

  • With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable. Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.

  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with software development best practices, including performance optimization, security, and testing and coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of industry experience in programming, software engineering, and/or software development.

  • Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in object-oriented languages including C#.

  • Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs and integrating them into scalable backend services.

  • Proficiency in Web UI development using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Blazor).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with software development best practices, including performance optimization, security, and testing and coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with software development best practices, including performance optimization, security, and testing and coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
