Office365 Security team seeks a Principal Software Engineering Manager to help our team tackle some of our most complex problems – our team, of which you would be a part, is charged to increase security of mission-critical services, services which are built on modern platforms and need modern solutions. Responsibilities

As a Principal Software Engineering Manager within O365 Security team, you will lead engineers working on key components in securing our platforms and services to many scenarios from low-level devices to the application layer. These services process millions of requests per second, reliably powering trillions of transactions per day, setting availability targets (>99.99%). You bring a mix of strategy and tactics: creating clarity on where services need to be in 2-3 years' time, building and growing the right team to deliver, and diving deep into the details of what we are building.

Key functions include:

  • Provide strategy, vision, product, and papers that will be presented to stakeholders and executives. 

  • Drive modernization of the security platform across M365. Work with other security leaders and partner teams to build a compelling and secure platform story around these scenarios.

  • Imagine, design, and drive a rapid roadmap of improvements that help the team be ready for novel new threats and attacks.

  • Work with partner teams to understand needs and translate them to well defined and prioritized scenarios & requirements and plans to resolve any issues. Help build good relationships with partners as they build on our platform. 

  • Define Objectives and Key results along with metrics (KPIs) and Service level agreements ( SLAs) to measure success of our platform investments.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of experience as an engineering manager, or a technical lead with a passion for coaching and mentoring others.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • Experience in your career history as a hands-on engineer working with distributed systems.

  • Deep practical experience operating high-scale services in production environments.

  • Demonstrated expereince leading and driving consensus on complex topics across leadership, team, and organizational boundaries and to deliver outcomes – the scope of this role is division-wide.

  • Prior experience with performance analysis and optimization of web services and software.

  • Prior experience building services which run on Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

  • Prior experience working inSecurity domains.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
