We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance leader to serve as the Head of Finance, M12 Venture Capital. This role is responsible for overseeing financial operations, reporting, investment due diligence, portfolio management and financial strategy for the fund with the M12 leadership team. In this role, you would be part of the M12 leadership team, engaging with the key stakeholders and working directly with the Corporate VP (Vice President) leading the firm. Ideally, you will bring prowess in venture capital/private equity, operating experience at a early/growth stage venture backed company, and an ability to collaborate across internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all financial operations, reporting, and compliance for M12, ensuring alignment with Microsoft’s broader finance and corporate structures.
Oversee fund-level accounting, tax, treasury and valuation processes, engaging directly with the financial leadership team.
Develop and manage financial strategies, fund performance metrics, and forecasting models to drive informed investment decisions.
Partner closely with M12’s investment team to support deal structuring, due diligence, and portfolio management.
Lead financial planning and budgeting for M12, optimizing capital allocation and expense management.
Support the Portfolio Management team in managing relationships with portfolio executive teams, board of directors, investment syndicates, secondary firms and external legal counsel with potential to be a Board Observer on individual portfolio companies.
Provide executive-level reporting to the Business Development and Ventures organization, offering insights on fund performance, returns, and financial health.
Drive operational efficiencies and process improvements across M12’s finance function.
Lead all data systems and structure including portfolio operating data, investment data, return data and valuation data.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 10+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field
OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field
OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 15+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience
OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 12+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience
OR equivalent experience.
10+ years of finance experience with a solid background in venture capital, private equity, or strategic finance at a private equity or venture backed company.
5+ years experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
5+ years work experience in matrix-based organization.
5+ years work experience in the technology or software industry.
Deep understanding of fund structures, investment modeling, and financial reporting for venture capital funds.
IPO (initial public offering), M&A (mergers and acquisitions) or fundraising experience either in an operating or investment role.
Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and mentor finance teams.
Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize complex financial data into actionable insights.
Proven stakeholder management and communication skills with experience presenting to executive leadership.
CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or MBA (Master of Business Administration) preferred.
Familiarity with Microsoft’s financial systems and reporting structures is a plus.
Experience building automated data storage and reporting systems.
Financial Analysis IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
