GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

Counsels students, families and staff regarding all options related to educational finance including but not limited to: federal, state and institutional guidelines related to applying for and receiving student financial aid. Required educational finance counseling also includes providing options to attain the best possible financial aid plan to complete their educational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires a strong working knowledge of higher education federal and state financial aid programs, policy and procedures, and processes as well as demonstrated administration of regulations governing those programs

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically EXCEL worksheets and formulas

  • Strong organizational, analytical, planning, and communication skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and demanding environment.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex assignments with sensitivity to deadlines, priorities and changing circumstances.

  • Demonstrated professional work ethic and positive, problem-solving attitude and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce sound solutions

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associates degree or experience equivalent required, with a minimum of two years in Student Billing or Financial Aid with focus on compliance; minimum of two years Student Billing or Financial Aid experience required. NASFAA Financial Aid credentials preferred and may be considered to supplement education/experience requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely awarding of financial aid to include but not limited to federal aid, state aid institutional aid and aid from other sources.

  • Responsible for resolving cost of attendance and over awarding issues timely.

  • Responsible for verification and award adjustments as required federal, state and institutional policies including but not limited to Return of Title IV and Satisfactory Academic Progress processing and advising

  • Work alongside the Student Financial Services team members to bill students accurately and award aid with the highest level of integrity and compliance

  • Responsible for monitoring student files to prohibit inaccurate billing and over-awards due to enrollment changes and/or package adjustments

  • When account adjustments are necessary, communicate with students and staff to educate and advise to ensure that the impact on student accounts are minimal

  • Mentor and build skills in fellow counselors and peers.

  • Attend regular training in customer service and student financial aid training to increase understanding for administering student accounts in the most professional, effective manner

  • Assist the Director with special projects, reporting and internal controls as requested

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the appropriate authority.
