GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

This position includes a variety of tasks involving the day-to-day operation of the Office of Admissions and Records from a student’s admission to graduation at Hinds. Individuals in this position must be task-orientated and take the initiative to perform a variety of tasks concerning student success, retention and graduation with little direct supervision. Flexibility to assume additional responsibilities as needed as well as the ability to function well under the pressure of deadlines is a necessity.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

A bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S.) and at least two (2) years of experience in Admissions and Records, Academic Advising or a related student services area are required. At least five (5) years of relevant customer service experience is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation and best practices

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Above average computer skills with working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Forms, etc.)

  • Receptivity to instructions and guidelines in a positive and hospitable manner

  • Possess a strong work ethic centered on teamwork and student success

  • Ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment

  • Ability to thoroughly complete tasks delivered through oral and written communications with attention to details and a high level of accuracy

  • Be knowledgeable of Hinds’ admission requirements and act as the Hinds Community College representative for the Complete 2 Compete program, which includes maintaining the Complete 2 Compete program website and attending campus recruiting events and campus meetings in representation of and to share information concerning the Complete 2 Compete program

  • Maintain incoming Reverse Transfer transcript mailbox, which includes evaluating Hinds and transfer transcripts to determine graduation eligibility and communicating that eligibility to evaluated students via written and verbal communications

  • Identify and evaluate students who are nearing degree completion and contact these students with feedback about additional coursework that may be needed

  • Query student information system for unenrolled students who have met graduation requirements (but never applied for graduation) with a goal to graduate these students

  • Keep detailed records of interactions and conversations with students

  • Post credentials to student records and print and mail student diplomas

  • Post transfer work

  • Attend and assist in the set up for graduation ceremonies

  • Answer phone and assist students and guests with general information
