Red Hat Senior Software Engineer in Raleigh, North Carolina

Design the implementation of new feature requests, bring them up for review, and break down their phases for eventual implementation. Monitor the bug tracker and the ticket system, engage the Quality engineering personnel, code fixes, and take the changes through the review process.

*Telecommuting role to be performed anywhere in the U.S.

What You Will Do:

  • Ensure there is testing coverage to prevent regressions of the bug fixes implemented and determine the right periodicity with which those tests should run.

  • Consult the target hardware platforms the software needs to run on and ensure the compatibility of the code implemented with such hardware platform.

  • Write documentation, engage the documentation team to perform knowledge transfer, and review the output of the documentation team before it reaches customers.

  • Consult the teams that provide software dependencies, identify gaps in Red Hat product, and gather feedback on the features worked on.

  • Guide customers through troubleshooting when there is a customer escalation.

  • Help design and recommend the minimum hardware to be supported and inform the decision of the minimal testing environment for both development and quality engineering.

  • Write up reports on the progress of software features and make sure that all stakeholders are up to date.

  • Participate in peer code reviews and continuous integration (CI).

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science or related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related role.

  • Must have five (5) years of experience working in a Linux environment;

  • Must have five (5) years of experience with Linux and Systemd;

  • Must have four (4) years of experience with containers;

  • Must have four (4) years of experience with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes;

  • Must have four (4) years of experience with debuggers and analyzing coredumps to establish root cause of crashes;

  • Must have three (3) years of experience with state machines to manage software transitions;

  • Must have three (3) years of experience with API design and versioning;

  • Must have three (3) years of experience with distributed systems;

  • Must have three (3) years of experience with virtualization;

  • Must have three (3) years of experience with continuous integration CI and CD.

The salary range for this position is $151,986 - $183,580. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
