Job Description Summary

Responsible for designing , developing and testing Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems that control and runs on devices that need to be tailored to the needs of the hardware that it has to control and run on (i.e. directly controls the real time functions of a physical device such as motors, alternators, engines, valves, fans, and other devices and products). Typically requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of the physical device being controlled, the realtime functions it is expected to perform and the ability to design, develop, implement, and test the logic and software required to realize the realtime functionality. Usually tailored for products and services across various P&Ls. Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Architects, designs and/or programs/develops modules within a large component, feature, set of feature, whole feature area or entire embedded software product line. Particular area of expertise related to real time operating systems(A653) and applications. Responsible for the definition of an entire product line strategy.

  • Developing specialized knowledge in software within products related to networking. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of state of the art developments real time operating systems(A653) and apps. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.

  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.

  • Mentoring and coaching colleagues with less experience. Lead projects that may include a high level of risk and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

  • Acts as liaison between several stake holders and disciplines within a product.

  • Capable to estimate projects activities within SW life cycle and to support or lead BOEs for bid and proposal aiming/supporting business growth.

  • Support trade studies with area of expertise ( real time operating systems(A653) and applications )

  • Expertise leading large multiregional teams through the entire SW life cycle phases

Required Qualifications

  • • Experience of software design life-cycle ideally within Aerospace, Automotive or similar controlled industry

  • • Experience of design and implementation of embedded software products at the firmware or driver level

  • • Experience and proficiency in the design and interpretation of UML diagrams

  • • Experience of interfacing hardware to software components

  • • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems

  • • Degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent level of knowledge or experience

  • • Knowledge of Power PC and ARM or Intel processors architectures.

  • • Knowledge on Operating Systems design principles.

  • • Knowledge of communication protocols (I2C, JTAG, Ethernet, CAN, PCI, PCIe, SPI).

  • • Knowledge on Linux development Environment (POSIX, threads, shared memory).
