Responsibilities

This leadership position is responsible for the management of the quality assurance aspects of multiple, concurrent technology projects including the quality planning, test planning, test approach, test case creation and all testing execution (pre and post production). Projects vary depending on size and scope and will require flexibility in the testing approach utilized based upon the inherent risk associated with the deliverable. This position will create a Quality Assurance vision within SCA, provide measurable quality criteria and results, and strive for continuous improvement to align the department’s efforts with the overall corporate strategy.

This position will focus on the entire project lifecycle to ensure quality processes are employed at each step (e.g., requirements, design, build, etc.) to increase the likelihood that the projects outcome will align with the original requirements of the project. This role will include management of the testing methodologies used while balancing the constraints of project scope, timelines, quality, and budget. The position will require management of risks, completion of status reports, monitoring and measuring risk, providing quality metrics, approving deliverables and post deliverable assessment. Day to day management of QA resources (internal or future vendor partnerships) will be required including significant communication to project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. Additionally there will be direct interaction with all levels of leadership throughout the organization as well as vendors/partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance Oversight

  • Provide overall management of and support to QA team members both internal and external to SCA.

  • Represent quality processes and standards with peer development/client managers and other stakeholders.

  • Determine test scope, create and execute test plans and revise, as appropriate, to meet changing quality needs and requirements.

  • Establish processes for quality assurance and continually refine these processes to ensure they are efficient and addressing the company’s changing needs.

  • Provide coaching, supervision, technical guidance, and hands-on activity in the analysis, design, execution, maintenance, and improvement of test cases and test plans.

  • Research, recommend, & implement cost-efficient means of automating the testing process to improve quality.

  • Develop, track, and communicate metrics for assessing the quality of IT products and services. Analyze and report trends.

  • Maintain expertise in the use of existing systems. Use innovative methods to ensure that business units are trained and properly utilize existing systems.

  • Ensure that strong change management practices are utilized throughout the IT Department.

  • Actively mentor and grow team members on quality assurance best practices.

  • Monitor and publicize ‘best practices’ used by other companies in similar business processes.

  • Ensure that deliverables meet the quality standards defined by our team before passing to client (UAT).

  • Ensure processes and procedures employed throughout the lifecycle of the project are consistent with ITIL standards (e.g., IT processes and services are aligned to changing business needs by identifying and implementing improvements to the IT delivery model that support the business processes).

  • Implement and apply appropriate testing methodology, standards and metrics capture.

  • Ensure testing related documentation and metrics are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

  • Establish QA methods and techniques to ensure application development projects meet design specifications, integrate/interoperate with applications, and perform to standards.

    Communication

  • Facilitate team and vendor meetings effectively.

  • Hold regular status meetings with project team.

  • Report accurate and timely quality metrics to key stake holders.

  • Keep project team well informed of any potential quality related issues as they are discovered.

  • Effectively communicates relevant QA project information to stakeholders.

  • Resolve and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.

  • Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.

  • Communicate with IT Management on any compliance issues relative to IT testing guidelines.

  • Meet with vendor/partners regularly to monitor progress and ensure compliance with corporate testing standards.

  • Report project progress and status reporting on a regular basis to the Director of Governance and Administration.

    Technical Understanding

  • Possess a strong understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design.

  • Understand Internet, Intranet, and client/server architectures.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of Information Technology capabilities.

  • Maintain a solid understanding of ITIL standards and best practices.

  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies.

    Client Interaction

  • Manage client interaction as necessary to ensure that quality needs are being met.

  • Develop lasting relationships with client personnel that foster client ties.

  • Communicate effectively with clients to identify any quality deficiencies and evaluate alternative solutions for these.

  • Build a knowledge base of each client's business, organization and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer related field preferred

  • 2+ years hands on QA management experience required

  • 7+ years required in Information Systems testing analysis

  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, including a proven ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment.

  • Proven ability to manage key stakeholders while managing competing priorities.

  • Strong leadership skills including conflict/issue resolution.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with clients, stakeholders, and senior leadership.

  • Ability to adjust and is flexible to meet changing needs and demands of internal and external vendor/partners.

  • Ability to work effectively with project resources across multiple departments.

  • Substantial experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Travel may be required as necessary to meet project needs.
