Red Cloud Indian School School Counselor - Part Time in Pine Ridge, South Dakota
Responsibilities:
Emotional and Social Support:
- Develop and implement programs to enhance emotional intelligence, resilience, and interpersonal relationships among students.
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to support students' emotional and social needs.
- Provide supervision and support for students in the calm room when necessary.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to identify students who may require additional emotional and social support.
Wellness and Holistic Education Advocacy:
- Raise awareness of wellness and behavioral issues among students, teachers, and parents.
- Organize workshops and training sessions for teachers on recognizing and addressing wellness concerns in our student community.
- Partner with external organizations to bring additional resources and support tailored to our students' needs.
Emergency Response and Immediate Support:
- Act as a point of contact for students in need of immediate attention, providing appropriate responses to their needs.
- Work with school administrators, teachers, and parents to develop and implement behavior support plans.
- Maintain and follow de-escalation protocols, ensuring all staff members are trained and familiar with the procedures.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with teachers to identify students needing extra support in the classroom, considering the cultural and holistic context of our school.
- Communicate regularly with parents to provide updates on students' well-being and share strategies for support.
- Collaborate with school staff to contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture that aligns with Lakota and Christian values.
Data Collection and Reporting:
- Keep detailed records of student interactions and behavior support plans.
- Provide regular reports on the overall well-being of the student population, incorporating cultural and socio-economic insights.
- Use data to identify trends and areas for improvement in student support services.
Attendance Support:
- Monitor student attendance to identify and address specific support needs.
- Communicate with families about attendance issues and work with them to develop support plans.
