POSITION SUMMARY

This position will provide direct oversight of all Technical Logistics staff. This position develops and directs department to effectively meet goals and objectives. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Hires, trains and conducts performance evaluations, and directs the workflow for designated staff. Develops and mentors department staff. Initiates corrective action as needed. This position is also accountable for participating in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives. Ensures all goals and objectives are met timely and effectively.

  2. Performs oversight of day-to-day problem resolution and troubleshooting to improve workflow. Participates in decision-making concerning policies, procedures and instrumentation related to the department. Assists in developing, writing, and implementing new policies and procedures.

  3. Utilizes Six Sigma to lean the department and assure standardized processes are followed and process improvement is maintained. Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates quality assurance activities for the area of responsibility. Provides oversight of QA policies and procedures. Monitors results of corrective and preventative action plans. Participates in intra- and interdepartmental process improvement teams. Monitors, tracks, and reports department and company quality metrics.

  4. Participates in the development of the department budget in conjunction with established goals and objectives. Plays a key role in ensuring budgetary goals are met on an annual basis. Manages waste and provides input on expense reduction ideas. Monitors the ordering of supplies.

  5. Serves as a resource and communication liaison to internal customers and external customers by responding to inquiries about results, quality, or other issues. Provides access to other system resources when appropriate. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. Focuses on customer service.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

DIRECTLY REPORTING

Provides direct supervision to 6 -26 directly reporting staff positions, which may include coordinators and line staff positions.

MATRIX OR INDIRECT REPORTING

This position may be matrixed with one or more additional supervisors and has indirect responsibility for all line staff positions which may overlap normal shift.

TYPE OF SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Hires, trains, conducts performance evaluations, and supervises the workflow for staff. This includes initiating promotions, transfers, and performance management actions.

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY

Works closely with the department manager(s) or director to ensure proper execution of policy and procedure for the area of responsibility. Advises the manager or director on expense reduction, provides input into personnel needs. Responsible for workflow management within established parameters. Has freedom to determine how best to accomplish functions within established procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

HS Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year directly related experience in a clinical laboratory setting; alternately, six (6) months directly related in a clinical laboratory setting AND an Associate’s Degree OR

HS Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years directly related experience in a healthcare or production environment; alternately, one (1) year directly related experience in a healthcare or production environment AND an Associate’s Degree.

Demonstrated problem resolution and troubleshooting ability.

Knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean concepts and how to apply them for process improvement.

Demonstrated leadership skills/abilities.

Demonstrated written and oral communication abilities.

Demonstrated computer skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare or related field.

One (1) year of demonstrated leadership experience.

Additional related knowledge and experience.

Certification as a medical technologist or technician.

Training in Six Sigma or Lean.

Additional related education and/or experience.
