Production Supervisor

We are currently seeking a Production Supervisor to help lead and support our Peterborough Fuel Bundle Assembly Production team. The Production Supervisor will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for the production team. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Reporting to the Production Manager, this position requires the incumbent to communicate and liaise with various office staff (EHS, Quality, ME's) along with shop floor employees and effectively listening and communicating during their day to day duties.

Specific responsibilities and accountabilities include:

  • Promote safety and quality as top priority at all times.

  • Develop production line manufacturing plans consistent with the goals and objectives of the operations department annual budget plan.

  • Arrange for and provide adequate staffing to meet the production schedules set by production planning consistent with the operational budget and with current business levels.

  • Manage day-to-day production activities and make necessary changes to achieve daily, weekly and yearly production targets.

  • Provide direction to support the needs of each production area, including the workforce, work assignments, scheduling of overtime, and training.

  • Create and oversee an employee training schedule that emphasizes safety, quality and productivity.

  • Maintain open lines of communication between employees and management.

  • Ensure all resources and assets are used efficiently and effectively.

  • Maintain monthly inventories to business and customer expectations.

  • Support, encourage and facilitate Lean Manufacturing principles by providing adequate training for project teams to accomplish continuous improvement projects.

  • Manage shop floor inventory of materials to ensure sufficient WIP throughout processes.

  • Work to maintain and further develop a Visual Workplace including supporting active project boards, performance measure charts, and training program status boards.

  • Develop and support the growth of all employees.

  • Support all company workplace policies including attendance and safety objectives.

  • Network with leaders to develop a strong culture where employees are motivated to achieve business goals.

  • Work with HR and management to develop a performance-oriented work environment encompassing timely performance appraisals, 30, 60, and 90 day reviews for new employees and timely disciplinary action when warranted.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in an operations or management position) in business, industrial management, or engineering is preferred.

  • At least 3 additional years of manufacturing supervision experience.

  • Ability to plan, communicate and execute.

  • Ability to deal fairly and equitably with all employees.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Unionized environment experience is preferred.

  • Able to participate on Emergency Response Team.

  • Flexible to doing Shift Work.

  • Able to work weekends if necessary.

    The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $78,000 and $121,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
