Project Overview:

Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been engaged to undertake a Feasibility Study through to EPCM construction and commissioning by one of our key clients. This Project involves greenfields and brownfields developments including earthworks through challenging terrain, construction of new crushing facilities, and transmission line installations.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s control systems aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of control systems components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure unique and complex requirements of a project’s control systems aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, reviews and conducts Control Systems work requiring judgment in the design, evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Control Systems engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a project.

  • Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of Control Systems utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​.

  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management​.

  • Develops conceptual and detailed designs of Control Systems engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements​.

  • Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules​.

  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting​.

  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data​.

  • Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of Control Systems aspects of the work​.

  • Conducts or leads special studies of Control Systems engineering methods, materials and techniques​.

  • Mentors Control Systems engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development​.

  • Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed.

  • Manages control system subconsultants for the development of the control system and documentation.

  • Develops and reviews Functional Descriptions and Control System Specifications.

  • Manages and reviews functional safety implementation within the Control System.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A certified Functional Safety Engineer, Professional or Expert.

  • Broad progressive work experience in design engineering, science or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering or plant operation in large scale mining facilities, bulk-material handling facilities, mineral processing facilities, industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms.

  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computers in the discipline. Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.

  • Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.

  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. Broad knowledge of industry /regulatory codes and standards, and design and/or layout criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.

  • Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.

  • Skill in oral and written communication. Demonstrated skill in leadership and supervisory experience.
