THE POSITION

We are looking for a Sexual Offenders Assessment Board Investigator to work with considerable independence in our Norristown region. This position is required to frequently travel to Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, and possibly other counties as needed. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Sexual Offenders Assessment Board Investigator, you are responsible for conducting pre-sentencing and pre-parole investigations of persons convicted of sexually violent offenses for the SOAB. Duties include conducting personal and criminal background investigations of convicted sex offenders and preparing investigation reports for SOAB members. The findings of these investigations are used in conducting sexually violent predator assessments for the courts and risk assessments for the Parole Board. You also conduct face-to-face forensic interviews with convicted sex offenders and collateral interviews with employers, family members and friends, and a wide variety of criminal justice and social service practitioners. This includes institutional personnel, police officers, district attorneys, county court staff, state parole agents, county probation officers, and children and youth workers. Through these interviews, you obtain information for the preparation of comprehensive investigation reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week

  • Work hours and work days vary, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Work Area: Although this position is home-headquartered, the ideal candidate would reside within the geographic area covered by the SOAB's Norristown (Southeastern PA) Region. More specifically, this position may be responsible for conducting investigations in the following counties, among others: Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, and Philadelphia. Regular travel to the counties in the SOAB's Norristown Region is required to collect information, conduct interviews and attend monthly in-person staff meetings. Please be advised that assignments may also fluctuate based on need.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $57,793 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in victims assistance, social welfare case work, law enforcement, or probation/parole which included six months of investigation of sexually violent crimes, sex crime counseling work or sex offender parole supervision and a bachelor's degree.

Special Requirement:

  • All candidates must possess a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania driver's license.
